👉🏼MGD: What Your Glands Tell Us About Your Eyes👈🏼
Along your eyelids are tiny oil glands that, on imaging, look like rows of piano keys. These glands keep your tears stable and your eyes comfortable.
With MGD (Meibomian Gland Dysfunction), those “keys” start to change over time:
• Healthy: full, evenly spaced “keys” → smooth tear film
• Early MGD: some keys look shortened or irregular
• Progression: gaps appear as glands weaken or drop out
• Advanced: many keys are missing → chronic dryness and irritation
❗️The important part: once those glands are lost, they don’t grow back.
That’s why early detection and treatment matter, not just to relieve symptoms, but to help preserve gland function.
At eyeXam, we evaluate gland health and offer treatments designed to support and restore function.
