There was a time when all the things I cared about most were radically shifted and my grief was so huge that I asked people in my life to come closer. My brother came and stayed with me for a few days and he cleaned out the attic of the house I was moving out of - an act of LOVE. It was daunting to go up there where a family of raccoons had taken up residence. My parents came and stayed a week - my mom .little told me to do bath time and reading time so the Beni because I had lost that routine. She didn’t do it for me. She told me to do it and I did. It felt like I was moving through molasses and the books were tortuous to get through, but I did it. I kept that routing for years to come - as I was just beginning my role as a single mom. My parents looked the other way as I went out and about with friends and lovers - my impression is that they were happy I was doing something, anything other than being frozen in my pain. I found my footing and will be forever grateful to all those who surrounded me when I was flattened. My brain was conflating all this loss with not being worthy to be on the planet. I’m so glad others created a bridge between that time when my brain finally got those two things unstuck. 💛
