Why is gender-inclusive language so important when talking about periods? Because not all women menstruate and not all those who menstruate identify themselves as women. Trans-, non-binary or gender-neutral persons can also bleed monthly. Therefore, the portrayal of menstruation as an experience that only women have is not entirely true. Marketing messages and products especially are strongly designed for supposed gender-specific characteristics, as is the case with menstrual products. However, cis-s*xist assumptions about menstruation and bodies can exclude and discriminate against certain individuals. This is why we talk about menstruating PEOPLE. 🎈🌈

AN IMPORTANT READ ON PERIODS AND GENDER DYSPHORIA FROM 👇👇
The distress and discomfort a person feels due to a mismatch between their gender identity and their s*x assigned at birth.
Menstruation and the power of it, it’s usually labeled within this community as a feminine power that allows you to tap into your divine feminine.
This could be hugely problematic for people who experience gender dysphoria, who want to live their menstruation like a body function rather than a gendered experience.
I’m not asking anyone to change their practice but does menstruation really have to be a gendered experience both physically and spiritually?
I am here to challenge this idea, because I believe that menstruation is a powerful tool but does not necessarily have to be in the binary experience.
