Arrive Reproductive Medicine

Arrive Reproductive Medicine Anne Chiaramonte, LAc, FAORM is a licensed acupuncturist and fellow of the American Board of Orienta

Anne fell in love with the philosophy of Chinese medicine as an anthropology student at UCLA. In 2004, she received her master’s degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Emperor’s College in Santa Monica. Anne’s interest in women’s health led her to Sydney, Australia, where she studied the integration of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and acupuncture with renowned author Jane Lyttleton. A year later she worked with Dr. Lifang Liang, author of "Acupuncture & IVF” and was part of one of the first onsite acupuncture programs for an IVF clinic at Pacific Fertility Center (PFC) in San Francisco. Anne also has advanced training in acupuncture orthopedics from Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills where she collaborated with many western doctors including neurologists, rheumatologists, radiologists and chiropractors. She is a Fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (FABORM) and a Diplomate of the National Board of Acupuncture Orthopedics (Dipl.NBAO). Anne’s practice is largely centered on couples that are trying to conceive. She sees many women with endocrine issues such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and helps support couples through the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. She loves to take the time to listen to her patients and to explain the integration of Chinese medicine with western medicine. She also sees men and women for other complaints such as allergies, back and neck pain, digestive issues, stress and low immunity. Anne lives in San Francisco with her husband, Ben, and very busy toddler, Luca. Anne recently joined the Mama Lounge team to be closer to her family in the city. Previously she was in private practice at Balance Restored in Marin for nearly ten years.

Most of my fertility patients have a team. It’s so important that we take a holistic view with imaging, lab tests and also the time-tested wisdom of other traditions like Chinese medicine.

But what happens when imaging or lab tests come back with results you had not hoped for? A blocked fallopian tube, low AMH, high FSH... It’s easy to latch on to a result and to feel anxious.

Stepping back and looking at the big picture with a more comprehensive lens allows us to see all the ways we can make difference.

I have hope for all my fertility patients.

It can feel incredibly frustrating if you’ve been trying to conceive and your labs come back “normal.”

This is often when people find their way to my clinic.

A basic fertility workup is very limited, typically involving just a few hormone tests. When we take a more comprehensive look—and apply optimal ranges—we can often identify patterns that have been overlooked.

Lab testing is one way we arrive at a personalized treatment plan and next steps.

✨ If you’re ready to look deeper, I share the 5 most commonly missed fertility labs in my latest blog.

A new offering (and friendly face) at Arrive ✨

I’m so happy to welcome Zoë (she/they) to the clinic—someone I met years ago at Luma, whose work I’ve long respected. After some time away, she’s back, and it feels like such a natural fit to have her here!

Zoë offers compassionate deep tissue, craniosacral therapy, lymphatic drainage, perinatal massage, and Reiki. Her work is gentle yet firm, creating space for your body to unwind, reset, and come back into balance.

If you’ve been feeling like you need a place to land, to rest, or to reconnect with your body, Zoë can help!

Acupuncture is a great addition to IUI, and my packages combine acupuncture and integrative medicine support for every stage of your cycle.

The Arrive and Nurture Packages span 3 months and are great for those wanting to focus on egg quality or underlying conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis.

When time is of the essence, the IUI Jumpstart Package begins 6 weeks before IUI.

Through acupuncture and integrative care, we can support:
• blood flow to the ovaries and uterus
• egg quality and follicle development
• uterine lining and implantation
• a regulated nervous system

And when needed, we can look deeper—at labs, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, and other commonly missed factors.

This is one of my favorite reminders—inside and outside of the clinic.

When it comes to my practice and supporting fertility, most people don’t necessarily know if their journey is going to be hard until they try.

If you’ve been told to “wait and see” even if it’s already been several months of trying, and you want a trusted advisor, or just a cheerleader ☺️, I’d love to chat.

My IVF packages combine acupuncture and integrative medicine support for every stage of your IVF cycle.

The Arrive and Nurture Packages span 3 months and are great for those wanting to focus on egg quality and underlying conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis before medications begin.

When time is of the essence, the IVF Jumpstart Package begins 6 weeks before retrieval or transfer.

In between cycles? The IVF Detox Package is a one-month bundle of treatment to help you decompress after a retrieval cycle or to get ready for an embryo transfer.

Research shows acupuncture is most effective when done consistently over time—not just on transfer day.

Through acupuncture and integrative care, we support:
• blood flow to the ovaries and uterus
• egg quality and follicle development
• uterine lining and implantation
• nervous system regulation and medication side effects

And when needed, we look deeper—at labs, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, and other often-missed factors.

Acupuncture can dovetail with IVF in so many ways.

When we have the time, we can make an impact egg quality, a process that takes at least 90-120 days and starts a few months before IVF medications begin.

If there are layers of health concerns in the picture, like PCOS and endometriosis, I find it invaluable to begin acupuncture few months before IVF.

If an IVF cycle is already underway or just around the corner, we can focus on other aspects of care - endometrial receptivity, reducing medication side effects and shifting the mindset from fear and overwhelm to hope.

Many of my patients share that their acupuncture visits become a place to land each week—a moment to exhale, feel grounded, and be cared for in the middle of a very clinical experience.

If you’re local and planning a cycle, or already in one, and curious how acupuncture could fit into your IVF plan, I share more about timing and research in my blog.

You can find it through the 🔗 in my bio, or book a FREE 15-minute consultation to see how I can best support your journey.

One of the most common questions I get in the clinic is “When should I start acupuncture for my IVF cycle?”

Fertility acupuncture was put on the map when research showed that acupuncture can significantly increase pregnancy rates on embryo transfer day in an IVF cycle.

More recent studies show that a higher “dose” of acupuncture—around 9–12 treatments before transfer—can improve outcomes compared with acupuncture only on transfer day.

The best time to start acupuncture is 1–3 months before egg retrieval or embryo transfer. This window allows us to support the factors that influence IVF success, including blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, hormone balance, egg quality, and uterine receptivity.

If you’re close to retrieval or transfer, starting acupuncture in the month before your cycle can still make a meaningful difference.

Whether you are just thinking about building your family or you have been trying for some time and want to find answers and support, care in my clinic begins with a three-month foundation.

We can use the menstrual cycle as a vital sign, following the arch of three menstrual cycles to track and shift symptoms. A three-month foundation also gives us time to consider all the tools in my toolbox, from acupuncture and herbs to advanced testing looking at the gut and vaginal microbiomes, hormones and s***m.

If you are looking for support while you are trying to conceive, even if you have been told to “just wait”, I’d love to hear your story and see how I might support you. Book a free 15-minute consultation via the link in my bio 🔗

I am always hopeful for my fertility patients because there’s so much we can do to support getting pregnant. Acupuncture is one tool in my toolbox to help those who are:

🌿 Just starting out trying to conceive
🌿 Trying for awhile and just told to wait
🌿 Wanting to give an IVF or IUI cycle its best chance

I cover how acupuncture works and much more in my blog “Acupuncture for IVF Success: What the Research Says About Timing and Protocols.” This information is important for natural cycles and IVF cycles alike - tap the link in my bio to read the full article.

I was in acupuncture school in 2002 when the landmark Paulus study was published and brought acupuncture for fertility into the mainstream. This study showed that acupuncture on embryo transfer day significantly increased pregnancy rates. This research, and the momentum behind fertility acupuncture, is a big reason why I chose to specialize in this area.

The research on acupuncture on IVF has come a long way in the last couple decades. Research has expanded from fresh cycles to include frozen cycles, donor cycles, and, very importantly, to more visits over the course of a few months rather than just acupuncture on transfer day alone.

If you’re planning an IVF cycle, consider acupuncture to support your cycle. I break down the research and timing in more detail in my latest blog, linked in my profile.
