Happy Brigid!

Josephine Baker embodied resilience, self-belief, and the power of overcoming adversity through inner fortitude. She emphasized perseverance, noting that continuous effort unlocks potential. She often spoke of using inner power to combat prejudice and fear, and famously stated, "I'm not intimidated by anyone."

Happy Black History Month! 🌟

Today, February 3rd, is Imbolc proper for 2026.

Think of Imbolc and the goddess Brigid's Day as a fluid holi-day because, as it is the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox, it can fall anywhere between February 3rd to February 6th. These moveable dates apply to the solstices and equinoxes also, which are not fixed to the same day each year.

The ancient goddess Brigid of the Tuatha DĂ© Danann, daughter of Danu and the Dagda, is a *different entity entirely* than Brigid, matron Saint of Ireland, a mortal woman, perhaps born in 451 CE.

Some of the qualities of the ancient goddess Brigid were *perhaps* transposed upon the later Saint Brigid — however, it is important to note that each have mention, virtue, and value in their own right.

*Brigid the Saint* is celebrated on February 1st, now a national holiday in Ireland.
The day of *Brigid the Goddess* changes slightly from year to year, yet never actually falls on the first day of the month. Regardless of these differences, the first days of February are a holy time.

In Ireland, Cairns U and L at Loughcrew, and Dumha na nGiall (The Mound of the Hostages at Tara), both in County Meath, are all aligned towards sunrise during this time period. This seems to indicate that the early days of February were of significance to our Neolithic ancestors.

Notes: The only mentions of Brigid the Goddess that we have are in writings by Irish monks in the 9th and 11th centuries. These were likely drawn from older sources, of which, no written record remains. Research Cormac's Glossary - 9th century, Lebor Gabála Érenn - 11th century, and Cath Maige Tuired - 12th century (?).

The origin of the Brigid’s Cross is a pre-Christian sun wheel, pointig to the four directions and seasons.

Snowdrops are not native to Ireland, and were likely introduced there in the 15th century by Italian monks, who planted the bulbs in monastery gardens, from which they later spread and became naturalized.

On February 2nd, Yemaya/Yemanja/Yemoja, a Yorùbá Orisha or Goddess of the Living Ocean, is also celebrated.

Her other feast days include: June 22nd (The Summer Solstice), September 7th and 9th, October 26th, and December 31st.

“Yemaya, Blessed Mother of the Seas,
Let Your Sacred Waters wash over me.
Mother, embrace me, Your humble child.
Cleanse me, Nurture me, Sustain me.
Yemaya, Beautiful One.
You Who wears the Seven Skirts of the Seven Seas,
Swirl around me and create a flow of energy
that can wash away all bane.
Yemaya, Mistress of the Moon,
Shine Your light onto me,
And fill me with your magic.
Help me to accomplish my goals
Yemaya, Healing Ocean Mother
I ask You to fill me with Your Healing Energy
Let Your Cleansing Waters wash over me
Heal me with Your Regenerative Powers.”

“The name Yemoja is a shortened version of Yey Omo Eja, which means "Mother Whose Children are Fish." This name implies that She has more children than one could count, and She is indeed considered the mother of all. While She originated in Africa, Her worship spread to many New World countries as a result of the transatlantic slave trade. She is venerated in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Tobago, Trinidad, Uruguay, and the U.S.”

“May all the healers of the earth find their own healing. May they be fueled by passionate love for the earth. May they know their fear but not be stopped by fear. May they feel their anger and yet not be ruled by rage. May they honor their grief but not be paralyzed by sorrow. May they transform fear, rage, and grief into compassion and the inspiration to act in service of what they love. May they find the help, the resources, the courage, the luck, the strength, the love, the health, the joy that they need to do the work. May they be in the right place, at the right time, in the right way. May they bring alive a great awakening, open a listening ear to hear the earth's voice, transform imbalance to balance, hate and greed to love. Blessed be the healers of the earth.”

May all sentient beings possess happiness and the causes of happiness.

May all sentient beings be free of suffering and the causes of suffering.

May all sentient beings never be separate from joy.

May all sentient beings remain in equanimity free of attachment and aversion.

Our Story

Welcome to Mini Mindfulness Meditations

My name is Kayla Garnet Rose, PhD. I am a holistic healer in Santa Cruz, California and I offer tools of H.E.A.R.T - Hypnosis, Energywork, Astrology, Reiki and Tarot. Many of my clients come to learn mindfulness and how to meditate, but it can be so difficult to find 20 minutes (let alone an hour) to practice everyday. So I began making these one minute meditations while on a silent retreat. Check them out at www.Laphrodite.net. They are not polished by any means. My hand gets shaky, you can hear me breathing, or maybe the wind in the background. Let the outside sounds bring you to the quiet inside. Or turn off the volume completely, enjoy your own moment of peacefulness. Put it on a loop and enjoy for as long as you like. Remember to breathe.

The Temple of Laphrodite provides a sacred space for you to sit for a spell or two. Daily meditations in a range of modalities invite you to take a moment for yourself. Affirmations, poems, prayers, rituals, sometimes just an image to reflect upon, a time for you to cultivate your own lightheartedness. Not all is light and fluffy. At the ripe age of 53, I am going through menopause, and for a while there it was kicking my ass. I channel much of my frustration into artwork, writing, and going on silent retreats. Currently I am finishing my book of art, prose, poetry and ritual, Laphrodite's Guide to Mindful Menopause, Or the Adventures of a Baby Crone. Part of being a Patreon means getting to see sneak peaks, add your insights, and be a part of birthing this book into being. Supporting the Kayla will help to create more videos, more yumminess, more or***ms for peace. With deep gratitude, Blessed be! Kayla
