Cody discovered Pilates many years ago as a means of enhancing her dance practice and overall body awareness for more efficient movement. However it was not until the birth of her daughter in 2007 that she got serious about her Pilates practice. Not only did Pilates help her rebuild strength postpartum but also allowed Cody to discover a deep inner body connection that helped bridge the inner and outer world, connecting mind to body in the most profound way. Cody is certified with 500 hours of training through the Midwest Pilates Institute teacher-training program, formerly a branch of Core Dynamics, in mat and all apparatus, 500 hour post certification study in Mastery Technique from Kathleen Konklin, as well as a certification from the Pilates Method Alliance. Cody is extremely excited to be living and teaching in her hometown again

Progressions into crock screw, roll over, and control balance. Additionally, you could start a client with a bolster under their hips to decrease the range of motion for the roll over.

To find the right progression for your client, try to identify the part of the movement they are struggling with. From there, it’s easier to pick the right progression for the body in front of you!

One of the silver linings of the past two and a half years has been the ability to take classes from instructors anywhere in the world. As more teachers realized they could offer virtual classes it made our community grow beyond what we could access in physical space and allowed us to connect across the globe.

If you’ve ever wanted to take a class with me now you can! I have virtual classes Tuesday-Thursday and offer reformer and mat. Want a little 1:1 time? Feeling stuck with a client or need some inspiration programming your classes? Need help with a tough rehab client? Book a virtual private!

I’d love to see your face and move with you! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😊

Do you or your clients have a hard time keeping the ribs integrated when adding the weight of the legs, say in something like single leg stretch? How can we set up the exercise so the body can react with the appropriate engagement and create the blueprint for a better motor pattern rather than need to create the motor pathway out of thin air when there is no blue print in the brain yet? It’s all about the set up! Give your body and brain something to react to! Like, here, if I don’t press into the strap, my carriage slides out from under me! Self-preservation is the motivation. Give your brain the motivation to create a better pattern!

Spine neutral, spine flexed, spine extended, rotated...none are better than the other and we need to be able to do all of them on purpose and with stability! I’ll admit, this is an exercise I rarely teach. Why? Cause it’s tough to teach the subtlety of the ab connection and most of the time people finish and are like, ‘okay, now what?’ Like they could have done without it. 😂 but! This assist gets you there without thinking about it at all and was a head exploding moment for me. As and instructor, we always want to try to set up and cue the exercise with as few words as possible so the client doesn’t have to explode their brain to figure out what the f@ you’re talking about. I sure do love this piece of equipment.

Forever working on my handstand. I’ll get it one of these days. A handstand assumes a large amount of shoulder flexibility, which eludes me much of the time. I find that the more I functionally strengthen my serratus and release my pectorals, the more successful I am in complex overhead movements like the sn**ch and handstand. **ch

Eccentric stimulation has been shown to improve strength more than concentric stimulation. This is a great way to utilize gravity for eccentric adductor work. Remember to resist!
