Most people try these for winter stiffness:

❌ Static stretching (holding passive stretches)
❌ Heating pads
❌ "Pushing through it"

None of them work. Here's why:

👉🏽 Static stretching doesn't address fascial restriction. You might feel temporary relief, but the stiffness comes back because you haven't changed tissue quality.

👉🏽 Heating pads feel good but create external warmth, not internal change. Your fascia needs movement to restore fluid flow, not passive heat.

👉🏽 "Pushing through it" when your tissues are cold and restricted just reinforces compensation patterns. You're forcing movement your body isn't ready for.

So what actually works?
✓ Active warming (gentle full-body movement before exercise)
✓ Myofascial stretching (working with fascial chains, not isolated muscles)
✓ ELDOA (spinal decompression to restore space and fluid flow)
✓ Consistent movement (15-20 min daily, even when you don't feel like it)

Winter stiffness isn't inevitable. You just need the right approach.

Ever wonder why your body feels stiffer in January than it did in September?

It's not in your head. And it's not just "aging."

Cold weather affects your fascia—the connective tissue web that wraps every muscle and coordinates movement throughout your body.

When temperatures drop, the ground substance in fascia (think: gel-like fluid around collagen fibers) becomes more viscous. It thickens. Flows less easily. Resists movement.

It's like honey in the refrigerator—same substance, different consistency.
Add to that the fact that most of us move less in winter (less hiking, gardening, outdoor activity), and you've created a cycle:

Cold restricts fascia → you move less → less movement creates more restriction → everything feels locked up.

But here's the good news: winter stiffness isn't inevitable.
New blog post breaks down the science + what actually works to restore mobility: [LINK IN COMMENTS]

It's January in Santa Fe. You wake up, and everything feels... tight.
Your back is stiff. Your shoulders are locked. Movement that felt fine in September now feels like you're pushing through molasses.

You're not imagining it. Cold weather affects your fascia—the connective tissue web that coordinates movement throughout your body.

When temperatures drop, fascia becomes more viscous. Less fluid. More resistant. Add to that the fact that most of us move less in winter, and you've got a recipe for stiffness.

But winter stiffness isn't inevitable.
I just published a new post breaking down:
✓ Why cold weather makes everything hurt
✓ What doesn't work (and why you keep trying it anyway)
✓ What actually restores mobility

What if the solution isn't more effort—it's smarter corrections?

You've been pushing harder. More reps. More intensity. More classes. But the plateau won't budge. The stiffness won't release. The pain keeps returning.

Here's why: your body doesn't need more volume. It needs better input. One restricted joint. One compensation pattern. One fascial chain that stopped functioning properly. Fix that, and everything else starts working again.

Learn how small, strategic corrections create bigger results than heroic effort ever could.

You're not broken. You're stuck.

There's a difference. And understanding it changes everything.
Your body isn't failing you. It's protecting you. That stiffness? It's guarding a restriction. That weakness? It's avoiding a vulnerable area. That plateau? It's your nervous system saying "I can't go further until you fix what's underneath."

Most programs add more load, more intensity, more reps. But if your foundation is compromised, more input just reinforces the compensation.

What you need: intelligent corrections that unstick what's been protecting for years.

Your body is brilliant at hiding dysfunction. Until it can't anymore.

That tight hip you've been stretching for months? It's not the problem. It's compensating for something else—a restriction in your ankle, a weak glute, a fascial chain that stopped moving years ago.

You keep addressing the symptom. Your body keeps compensating. And eventually, the whole system hits a wall.

This is why "just stretching more" doesn't work. This is why you can be active for years and still feel stuck.

Read how to identify and address the real problem (not just the pain):

You're not a couch potato. You've been moving. So why do you feel stuck?

Active people plateau, too. And the holiday slowdown just revealed what's been brewing: compensation patterns, fascial restrictions, movement limitations you've been ignoring.

January's fresh energy doesn't need to come with crash-diet pressure. Use it to make small, strategic corrections that actually move the needle.

Quick question:

When you do an exercise, do you know WHY you're doing it?
Not just "my trainer said so" or "it's in the program."

But do you understand what it's supposed to feel like, what muscles should be working, what restrictions it's addressing?
If not, you're following. Not learning.

And there's a huge difference.
Body literacy = understanding your body's language
Blind following = renting your health from experts

Which one are you building?

Most people want me to "fix" them.

Tell me what's wrong. Give me three exercises. Make the pain go away.
But here's the problem: when you only want exercises, you stay dependent.

What do you actually need? Body literacy—the ability to read your own signals and know when to push, when to rest, and when something needs attention.

That skill is worth more than any workout I could give you.

Grateful for bodies that adapt.

For fascia that remodels when given the right stimulus.

For compensation patterns that can be unwound.

For clients who show up consistently and trust the process.

For the moment pain resolves and movement returns.

For work that matters.

Happy Thanksgiving from SolCore Fitness.

11/24/2025

Your body adapts to what you do.

And what you don't do.

When you avoid movements because they're uncomfortable, your body learns to protect and compensate. Tissues that need loading don't get loaded. Patterns that need refinement never get refined.

Avoidance doesn't create change. It creates protection.

And protection, over time, becomes restriction.

The very thing you're trying to avoid becomes permanent.

This is why pain keeps returning. Why stiffness won't release. Why compensations stack silently until they become dysfunction.

The way through is intelligent challenge—not avoidance.

That's how your body adapts. That's how lasting change happens.

Amy's story is about what most people don't understand:

"Random acts of movement."

Skiing, hiking, gardening, traveling—all wonderful activities. But she'd never brought her body back to balance with the kind of work that undoes wear and tear.

She wasn't injured. But she was accumulating compensations. Small imbalances. Restrictions she didn't notice.

Patterns that were starting to limit her.
When she started at SolCore, she realized she'd been missing the foundation.

The first three months were the hardest—her body learning new patterns, fascia adapting, deep stabilizers coming back online. But she showed up. She stayed consistent. She trusted the process.

After three months: aches gone, energy restored, mobility she hadn't had in years.

Amy's lesson: You don't have to wait for severe pain to act. Address compensations before they become dysfunction.
That's prevention.
