I think it is safe to say we have the best clients, and the cutest patients!

We want to say thank you to Missy's family for writing this beautiful testimonial about their time with us:

"We really can’t say enough good things about Dr. Kelly and the team at Veterinary Cancer Care. We’ve been seeing them since February 2024, and honestly, we don’t think our dog, Missy, would still be with us without them.

Our first experience in 2024 was a huge relief. Another vet wanted to do a really invasive biopsy for a small growth on her lip that would’ve been permanently disfiguring, so we sought out a second opinion from Dr. Kelly. She was able to fit us in to do a tiny punch biopsy that same day. It turned out to be benign, and you couldn't even see a scar.

Then, in March of 2025, we brought Missy back in to have a large mass inspected on the back of her tongue, which turned out to be an aggressive oral melanoma. Dr. Kelly began treatment immediately that day, and was honest with us about the prognosis (maybe 6 months with treatment). She laid out every possible option, from surgery and electrochemotherapy to these personalized vaccines they make from her tumor cells. She was transparent with us about costs throughout the process and was sure to let us know what options we should consider depending on what our budget would allow.

What we love most is how much they actually care. Dr. Kelly gets right down on the floor with Missy every time we’re there, showing her so much love. They have a text line where we can check in, they call us frequently to see how she’s doing. They’ve even seen us on a Saturday when we had an emergency. We've never seen or heard of more personalized or flexible care from any vet, anywhere.

It’s been 10 months since that cancer diagnosis, and Missy is still her happy, playful self. Her scans are clear, and she’s still out there enjoying her long walks. If you’re dealing with a tough diagnosis for your pet, we’d highly recommend giving them a call. Dr. Kelly is a true miracle worker, and we firmly believe that Missy wouldn't still be alive without her."

Gilvetmab is the first ever immune checkpoint inhibitor developed for dogs. It binds and blocks the interaction between PD-L1 and PD-1 so the immune system can stay active and continue fighting against cancer.

It was initially studied in dogs with Mast Cell Tumors and Melanoma, however other types of cancer with high tumor mutational burden might be good targets as well. Clinical studies are ongoing, and this proves to be a promising advancement in veterinary oncology!

Give us a call to set up a consultation to determine whether Gilvetmab may be an option for your pet 💕

Gilvetmab is a caninized monoclonal antibody used to treat dogs with MCTs and melanomas. It is an ideal systemic treatment option labeled for dogs with stage I, II, and III MCTs and stage II and III melanomas.

If you've been to our clinic, you may have met two very special team members - Dakota (great dane) and Oscar (havanese) 💕

When appropriate and safe, these gentle pups love roaming the clinic, greeting clients, and spending time with patients who could use a little extra comfort. From calming nervous pets and offering quiet companionship during tough moments, Dakota and Oscar provide invaluable emotional support and plenty of tail wags along the way.

Here you can see them providing companionship and support to Juneau, who was a little bit nervous at his recent visit

📸Have a favorite Dakota or Oscar moment? We'd love for you to share it in our comments! 🐶

Earlier this week Dr. Kelly and staff attended the world premiere of Viva Pancho! in support of Española Humane!

Viva Pancho is the story of an incredibly brave dog who risked (and almost gave) his life to save his family last summer when an armed intruder invaded his home, putting his family at risk. Pancho stepped up to protect his family and sustained life-threatening injuries. The brave and extremely skilled team at Espanola Humane worked tirelessly to save this hero's life, and were successful.

This epic film is a dedication to the heroic actions of Pancho, as well as his amazing medical team, that will not soon be forgotten 💕
