We're excited to host Santa at Santa Fe Medical Center next Tuesday, December 16th! He will be arriving by helicopter and will have time to visit and take photos with all the kids and their families in the lower level lobby.

We will also be collecting new unwrapped toys to finish out collection for the Northern New Mexico Toy Drive this year, so if you have been waiting to drop yours off, this will be the last opportunity to make the holidays a little brighter for a local child.

Bring your best holiday spirit and we'll look forward to seeing you there!

Taking the time to get an easy, screening CT scan of the chest is probably the most meaningful way people at-risk for developing lung cancer can catch their disease early and live a normal length of life without compromising quality of life. Modern therapies for lung cancer have improved dramatically, and the cure rate for early-stage lung cancer can be well above 80-90%.

This screening is now available at Santa Fe Medical Center in our radiology department. If you have concerns or wonder if this screening might be right for you, speak to your health care provider about whether you qualify for lung cancer screening.

Did you know that neurosurgery isn't just brain surgery? Neurosurgeons are specially trained to diagnose and treat conditions that affect the brain, spine and nervous system. That means neurosurgeons care for everything from brain tumors and spinal injuries to pinched nerves and strokes. Neurosurgery is about more than just the brain — it’s about helping people regain their strength, mobility, and independence when the nervous system is affected.

Santa Fe Medical Center is now offering neurosurgical care at this location. Whether you need a consultation, a second opinion, or ongoing care, our providers can help create a personalized treatment plan to help manage your symptoms and get back to the things you love doing.

We loved welcoming students from Capital High School to Presbyterian Santa Fe Medical Center for a hands-on orientation led by chief nurse executive, Jen Ellis, to kick off the Medical Science Career Pathways Program. Investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals is critical for New Mexico’s future, and we’re proud to partner with Capital High to inspire, educate and open doors for students who may one day serve their own communities as nurses, physicians technicians and more.

We are closing out our thankful posts to our wonderful medical director of the Santa Fe Medical Center surgical department, Dr. Thao Marquez. Dr. Marquez brings her expertise to our surgical program, including our robotic surgery cases and we are thankful to have her as part of our team!

Dr. Marquez told us she is thankful for:
My dedicated Presbyterian operating room team, clinic team, and hospital staff who provide exceptional care to my patients.

Having the Santa Fe community entrust their health care to Presbyterian.

The unwavering support and love of my family.

Residing in a beautiful city that constantly reminds me to maintain balance.

If you've visited our cafe' at Santa Fe Medical Center, then you probably recognize Mary Manno. She's one of the smiling faces you see in the cafe' every day, welcoming staff and patients and visitors, and we are thankful for her hard work and friendly, welcoming attitude!

When we asked what she was most thankful for, Mary told us:
I thank God, the Son and Holy Spirit for waking me up each morning and blessing me with a new day. On the morning roll call!

I am thankful for my family and friends. My children (2), grandchildren (4), brothers (2) and sisters (4). And lots of cousins. And of course our Hazel (lady dog!)

I am thankful for Dr. Voight (who saved my life), Dr. T. Marquez and Dr. S. Marquez (who put me back together) and Dr. Fix, as well as all the nurses and techs who helped in my surgery recovery and at home care.

Thankful and happy to see everyone that comes in the Café!

Santa Fe Medical Center is always thankful for our amazing providers, and one of our new OB/GYNs, Dr. Christina Ulibarri, is no exception. We are thankful she has decided to practice medicine at our hospital.

Dr. Ulibarri mentioned there are many things she is thankful for, but here are some on her short list:

I am originally from Northern NM and has been an absolute privilege I was able to come back and serve my community. It has been such a joy to know my patients and their families.

I'm new to the Presbyterian system and started here with our Women's Care services in October. The staff in the clinic, labor and delivery, and the operating room have been so welcoming. They have made my transition easier and already feel I'm part of the team. I'm also thankful to practice in group again with skilled/trusted physicians and APCs! It makes all difference to know you can trust the people you work with!

Finally, I am forever grateful for my family. I do love all my vocations. Not only my job as an OBGYN, but my roles as a mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to my loved ones. You all keep me on my toes!

Today we are visiting with another amazing staff member from our rehab department, Elisabeth Wise. We are thankful that you've chosen to work here at Santa Fe Medical Center. Cheering you on to finish up your degree!

When we asked Elisabeth about things she is thankful for, she told us:
"I'm thankful for the abundance of natural spaces throughout New Mexico. The many windows in the hospital showcase the wider world, but the opportunity to go hiking or boating close to home is amazing. I love the ever-changing sunsets.

I appreciate the congenial atmosphere and camaraderie in the rehab department. We work with each other and share ideas and recommendations in order to improve patient care. I'm most thankful for the smiles on our patients' faces when they achieve something they haven't done in a while or feel a decrease in pain. The ability to help people help themselves find ways to move and be active is fantastic. I love watching people stand up from a chair without requiring support, or walk without an assistive device for the first time since surgery, or talk about taking a walk with family without needing a break.

At this time of year, I am also thankful for my family and friends, we support each other throughout the year, but remember to mention it more during the holiday season.

Finally, I am thankful to be nearing the end of my PhD journey. While the research and dissertation process have been interesting, and I've learned a lot, I'm ready to graduate and take a break from school for a while."

Today we're highlighting Gilbert Mancha, who currently works in our rehabilitation department at Santa Fe Medical Center, but who will be starting nursing school in January. We're so excited for you, Gilbert, as you begin this next part of your career, and thankful for all the care you bring to our rehab patients.

Gilbert told us:
"There is a lot to be thankful for, but the ones that stand out the most are:

My family, my girlfriend, my parents, my siblings' brother and sister, my three nieces, and my grandparents. I am very thankful to have these people in my life.

I am also very thankful for the opportunity Presbyterian has put me in. I have worked at the SFMC for 7 yrs since it opened, and I will be starting Nursing school in January at Brookline, and I am so thankful for Presbyterian and my work family supporting me through this journey.

Lastly, I am very thankful for having such a great leader in my supervisor Lisa. We have worked together for 7 years, and she has always been very supportive of me when it comes to school and making sure, I have the time and support I need to finish nursing school."
