Are you or someone you know experiencing homelessness or facing housing insecurities? Good Samaritan Shelters Prevention, Diversion, Retention program may be able to help. PDR serves as a vital bridge for those in Santa Barbara County who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness by using individualized community based resources and a full support system including expert housing navigation, financial assistance with deposits, and long term supportive services to those who qualify.
Whether our team of professionals are advocating for clients with landlords or coordinating relocation reunification with family across the country, our mission is to provide steady, compassionate guidance that leads to long term stability and independence.

At Good Samaritan Shelter we are dedicated to supporting the growth of our team members and are honored to present our latest round of scholarship opportunities funded under the California Department of Health Care Access and Information Scholarship program.
In round 5 of our recognition luncheons, $29,000 was awarded to help these individuals in their journey of commitment to our underserved community.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to our Director of Housing Alexis Nshamamba who has championed tirelessly for this program. Her hard work has helped bring the long term success of our team members while enriching the service delivery for our participants in the process.

Good Samaritan Shelter is proud to partner with the County of San Luis Obispo and Dignity Moves to bring more shelter options to serve those experiencing homelessness in San Luis Obispo with Welcome Home Village.
This unique model that will be operated by Good Samaritan Shelter will offer 40 Permanent Supportive Housing units and 14 Interim units with on site case management, mental health and substance use counseling as well as medical care coordination.
The project is expected to be completed by Spring 2026

Good Samaritan Shelter's San Luis Obispo Sobering Center in partnership with Cal Poly Campus Health and Well Being was on site to offer support to attendees at this years St. Fratty's Day 2026 celebration with Sober Up Spaces. With 3 spaces offered and monitored by Good Samaritan Sober center professionals, San Luis Obispo County EMT providers, and additional support staff, approximately 600 individuals were served with everything from hydration and snacks, to medical transport to appropriate facilities for further care. We would like to extend a heart felt thank you to our community partners as well as the attendees who trusted us with their safety during the festivities as we are committed to promoting best practices and providing support to those in need for many more years to come!

We had an outstanding show of community support at the grand opening of our Good Samaritan Shelter Food For Good programs newest addition, the Good Samwhich food truck! This is a social initiative that creates employment and job training opportunities while generating resources that support programs serving people experiencing homelessness in our community and those working toward recovery and stability. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Women's Fund of Santa Barbara and other contributing members for their unwavering support in making this project possible as well as the Good Samaritan Executive Board, Executive Team, and all of our committed staff who work tirelessly every day to serve those in need.

Good Samaritan Shelter is excited to launch its very first Good Samwich food truck with a ribbon-cutting celebration on Tuesday, March 10, from 12–2 p.m. at the beautiful Old Mission Santa Barbara.

This new venture—part of our Food for Good initiative—creates paid, hands-on job opportunities for people working toward long-term employment in the food service industry, all while supporting vital homeless services in our community.
