OCD & Anxiety Program of Southern California Our team of therapists delivers evidence-based treatment for anxiety and OCD, including the Bergen 4-Day Treatment for OCD

We are a group of compassionate PhD trained clinicians who understand how difficult it can be to live with OCD and anxiety-related disorders. We specialize in diagnosing and treating these disorders and are experts in the field. The treatment team delivers individualized evidence-based treatment for individuals struggling with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders, phobias, and depression. We utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), particularly Exposure and Response Prevention (E/RP), which is considered to be the gold standard for the treatment of anxiety disorders. We also utilize other effective interventions, such as mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Our therapists strive to work collaboratively with clients to develop and implement treatment plans. We meet clients where they are at and use their strengths as much as possible to enhance their potential benefits from evidence based treatment. When appropriate, we also work with client's families to provide information and teach skills that equip them to aid their loved one in their treatment. We have a therapist on staff that is fluent in Spanish and provides treatment in both English and Spanish. We currently offer outpatient services for all ages and Intensive Outpatient Services (IOP) for adolescents and adults. We are also able to complete home and school visits as well as conduct treatment via the Internet when such treatment modalities are necessary and appropriate. We are located in the heart of Los Angeles in Santa Monica, California, right off of Ocean Park Boulevard, a bustling exciting environment that is near shops, restaurants, and the ocean. This offers terrific opportunities to enhance the treatment and complete exposures in the community during the treatment day. Please contact us at 310- 488- 5850 for a free consultation or visit the program website http://socalocdprogram.org/ for more information

🌏 Just wrapped up an incredible OCD Symposium in Singapore!

Over 350 participants from around the world came together for an inspiring, high-energy, and deeply collaborative meeting focused on advancing evidence-based treatment and global dissemination — ensuring that effective care reaches those who need it most.

We were joined by dedicated teams from Australia, New Zealand, China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Nepal, Germany, the United States, and more. The main focus was the Bergen 4-Day Treatment (B4DT) for OCD and how we can build on this model — integrating intention-focused work and expanding applications across anxiety disorders and beyond. This international conference and dissemination effort were made possible through the generous support of Kavlifondet — whose commitment to mental health innovation continues to make a global impact. 💙

A huge thank you to Jackki Yim and Tammie Kwek, our amazing colleagues in Singapore, for organizing this event through the OCD Network of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, with support from the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).

Dr. Bjarne Hansen led with extraordinary insight — sharing the remarkable journey of Norway’s mental health care transformation, the development of B4DT, and exciting new directions for the future of intensive treatment delivery.

There were many moving moments, including a visit to IMH where Bjarne was honored with a tree planting on campus recognizing his contributions to mental health (see photos and plaque). And an especially surreal and touching surprise — portraits presented to both Bjarne and me by our Singapore colleagues.

Next stop: Melbourne, Australia, where we’ll continue our work with The Melbourne Clinic to further strengthen both outpatient and inpatient OCD treatment approaches. More on that soon! 🌿.. also, more on training opportunities for this treatment approach at the OCD & Anxiety Program of Southern California - stay tuned~

We wanted to share with you a heartwarming statement that one teenager wrote about her inspiring treatment journey. It is truly humbling to be part of her story, which she wanted to share in the hope that it might potentially help others. She was part of the first ever Bergen 4-Day Treatment (B4DT) adolescent group completed in Los Angeles in January of 2025. This milestone marks an important step in providing effective, concentrated treatment for younger clients struggling with OCD. This is what she wrote about her experience:

"The Bergen 4-Day Treatment program has changed my life in ways I never could've imagined. I came to Bergen after my first year of college, struggling with severe OCD. Each day was a battle to get through, and I felt hopeless. My life had been overtaken by OCD, and I lost touch with everything I once loved. But the Bergen 4-Day Treatment taught me how strong and brave I truly am. The team I worked with was so kind and supportive—it brings tears to my eyes thinking about the good memories I made during the program. Through all the education and tools Bergen provided, I learned how to take my life back. I know it sounds crazy, but I even had fun doing my exposure tasks! It was thrilling to face fears that had paralyzed me for years. I learned that OCD isn’t as terrifying as it seems—it’s just a crafty, annoying trickster. Leaving Bergen, I was filled with hope and confidence. I had learned to be kind to myself during such a life-changing time and to stay motivated to live my life the way I want, not the way OCD dictates. I still think about my flight home, sitting there smiling, knowing I was getting my life back. Bergen is a truly special place, and I can't recommend it enough. Now, I’m back at school, having an amazing time! I’m loving my classes, meeting new friends, trying new things, and, most importantly, I feel like me again.” - Avery

Research supporting the effectiveness of this treatment for adolescents has shown impressive results. In a 2024 study by Skjold et al., conducted across seven sites in Norway, 85.71% of adolescent participants saw a significant reduction in their OCD symptoms, and 69.05% were in remission post-treatment. At the three-month follow-up, 92.3% were considered responders, and 84.62% remained in remission.

Similar to the adult version, the youth version of the B4DT is designed to deliver the entire treatment within four consecutive days, tailored to each individual with a 1:1 patient-therapist ratio. In the youth version, parents are involved on days one and four to learn how to support their child and reduce family accommodations for OCD.

We are hosting one B4DT group per month and are excited to announce that the next adult group will begin on March 24th, 2025. If you or a loved one are interested in participating in this evidence-based, intensive OCD treatment program, please contact the OCD & Anxiety Program of Southern California at (310) 488-5850 or info@socalocd.org.
