This is a pivotal moment in women’s health history!  The FDA is finally removing the Black Box Warning on Estrogen hormone therapy that is used to treat menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats.
This now reflects the current data.
-systemic HT is now considered safer when begun at the correct time in the appropriate patient
-low dose locally applied vaginal estrogen therapy was never dangerous to use in the first place
-For women within 10 years of menopause, hormone therapy has benefits and far fewer risks than previously was thought.
-the black box warning was very outdated and stemmed form outdated and incorrect interpretations of an early study from the WHI.  Thank you to my fellow ISSWSH colleagues who worked hard to advocate for this!

Cytolytic v@ginosis stems from an excessive growth of lactobacilli, a natural bacteria in the v@gina. This overgrowth can irritate and break down v@ginal cells, leading to symptoms like abundant whitish d1scharge, v@ginal itching, burning, discomfort during 1ntercourse, and an acidic v@ginal pH (3.3 to 5.5). Diagnosis often occurs incidentally during routine tests like v@ginal swabs or cervic1l sme@rs, with many women unaware of the condition. The imbalance in lactobacilli disrupts the v@ginal environment, resulting in various uncomfortable symptoms.

Often, these symptoms get misdiagnosed since they tend to look like yeast infections. If you are struggling to figure out what is causing these symptoms, please contact our office today so we can help you!
