“How you arrange your books should be based on how you are using your books and your personal aesthetic. If they are set out mainly for decoration to warm up a space and provide interesting talking points, then color coding could be one option if the consistency or progression of color is visually appealing to you. Some dig it, some think it looks too staged.”

“Worst way to arrange them: Piled up and forgotten in the bottom of a box in the attic or other storage space. Use them or lose them. Their words and pictures do no one any good if they aren’t seen, accessible, and in good condition.”

After you say yes to the dress - and yes to the groom - what's the answer to, "Where do I put this gown?" First, have it professionally cleaned. Then, some choose to hang it (use breathable cotton garment bag if covering it) and some choose to box it (use acid-free paper and acid-free, archival box). The hanging ones often take the position at the far, dark corner of the closet, the boxed ones often get shifted around because the box is too big for a standard shelf and thus gets in the way. Another option is to frame it so it becomes a piece of art to be seen and appreciated on more than just your wedding day. This first photo at our client's is of her grandmother's framed wedding dress along with photos to deepen the connection to the person in addition to The Big Day.

More and more, we're finding homes and offices stocked with all sorts of products not needed to reach the clients' goals for peace, productivity, order, and great vibes. Blame marketing, impulse shopping, bad advice, changed plans or no plans. Save time, money, and energy by first deciding what you want to store and where you want to store it, then source a product that meets that need. Don't just buy because something is on sale, looks cute, or works for your friend. The wrong or excess product creates bulk, it might not be returnable, and it will ultimately end up in a landfill. Protect your resources (time, money, energy, the 🌎!), and buy strategically, knowing when enough is enough.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at The Container Store Buckhead, especially Trish pictured, who helped with this large return when I was the first customer at opening Saturday morning. Over $600 back to our client. We're putting it toward an closet system for a long-term solution for home!

Wore a for the first time today while managing a very crowded garage project. I know now when people ask, "What's it like to be a professional organizer?" I can respond that it's not unlike playing ice hockey. 🏒

That "healthy dose of OCD" required for this profession is also wondering why no credit for the full 10am to 7pm of constant motion on the job. Do we never outgrow the need for a gold star? My word. Maybe that's the lesson...relax! ⭐️

Got this from my brother. Niece Alexandra and her mom have been working on her room. It's inspired Alexandra to write a book. Author, artist, and organizer!

Your children may have a vision for their room, too. I always start off helping with kids' rooms by asking the kid if they could change up the room, what would they want. It's often a big surprise to the parent. Then we take it from there with changes we can make given time, budget, accessibility, and new habits. Apparently you can also now call Alexandra, or read her book, if you need a peer consult. ☺️

We've managed so many client moves in the last few months we've lost count, but one thing we can count on is this group of guys at who have helped us through many tricky relocations. If you are gathering quotes for an upcoming move, don't be shy about asking for details about how the company works and the projected costs. What kind of training does the team get? What type of insurance do they have? Do they do background checks on those they hire? Are they employees or subcontractors? Do they own their own trucks or rent one for the job? Will they bring protective covering for the floors and walls? Do they move and also pack? If so, how are the materials priced? Do they do disassembly and reassembly of beds, tables...trampolines? Do they do de-install and re-install of TVs? Do they provide crates for art and light fixtures? How much an hour per person? Do they charge when the team breaks for lunch? Is there a transport fee for the truck from the warehouse to the move site? Do they have a storage facility and if so, what type of security is there, how & when can you access it, is it multi-levels, is it pods, vaults, units, or open warehouse space? Will you have a designated pick up and drop off date or a window of time? Will your things be transferred from one truck to another at any point? What about a shuttle if the moving truck is too big to get to your house, what are those costs, and when will you know if that's required? Will the same team members be there every day? If the price is by weight, can you see record of the weight of the empty truck and the weight of it with your things loaded? What items will they not transport? How long have they been in business? What is the phone number for the driver / lead? What number do you use to contact the company rep if your move is after hours and there are questions or issues? What is their claims process like? Is there a processing fee to pay by credit card? Will they haul away packing debris and if so, is that an added charge?

Get your questions answered and have things clear in writing. Moving is tough enough. Know before you go.
