You get your eyes and teeth checked regularly, why not have your hearing checked regularly as well?? The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that anyone aged 50 years and over have a hearing screen. Increasing age is the most important risk factor for hearing loss. Other risk factors include a history of exposure to loud noises or ototoxic agents (including occupational exposures), genetic factors, and certain systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Today is World Hearing Day!

The World Health Organization predicts that by the year 2050, there will be 900 million people in the world with hearing loss. By creating World Hearing Day, the World Health Organization is raising awareness on how to prevent hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world. We need to take action now by
*allocating resources for health care
*ensuring access to hearing technologies and communication services and
*regulating sound exposure

We are a day late on this one, but did you know that 10 of our past U.S. Presidents had a hearing loss? The most famous one may be Ronald Reagan who, by wearing a hearing aid himself while in office, encouraged more widespread acceptance of hearing aids and reduced the stigma associated with hearing loss at that time.

October is National Audiology Awareness Month! Did you know that a clinical doctorate, known as the Au.D., is now needed to practice as a licensed Audiologist? The Au.D. Doctorate is a four year graduate degree program that allows individuals to specialize in the clinical practice of Audiology!

We often get asked by patients in our office why we fit Oticon hearing aids.
