Growing up in rural Mississippi as an Ole Miss fan, I learned about disappointment. My first prayer to God as a young child was for Ole Miss to beat Alabama. I remember listening to the Tulane game on the radio when the lights went out in the Superdome and the Rebels lost. I was 11 years old in the stands in Oxford when Herschel Walker tried to leap over the goal line for a TD, got knocked back, and simply landed on his feet and walked into the end zone.
We also learned to accept small victories, like the occasional Poulan W**d Eater Independence Bowls and the Hand of God win over Mississippi State.

So I’m going to savor this latest victory for awhile.

The clinic is open today until 1 PM. Walk-ins are welcome! Just don’t expect any miracles- I used all of mine up with Wrexham winning their last two games, the Habs beating Carolina in Carolina for the first time in 10 years, and Ole Miss taking out Georgia

Really enjoyed this new movie on Netflix about a man who walks across the whole of Britain, and reflects on his life in the process.

I can tell you, there’s something to this. I’m not a walker, but I always used to enjoy bike riding on my own early in the morning. It allowed me to experience peace and solitude and also gave me a chance to clear my head. I enjoyed it so much, I actually used to take my bike to the Wakulla Springs Lodge while working in Tallahassee. I get the same feeling when I’m kayaking at sunrise, and I have the entire coastline to myself. It’s a calming feeling to be surrounded by nature, and to not have the insignificant worries of the modern world intruding on your thoughts. Whether I was biking or kayaking, I used to get so much done mentally. I actually got in the habit of taking a pen and paper so I could jot down the ideas that came to me. When I was in office, I thought up some of my best legislation while out on the bike.

As the new year approaches, go out of your way to make time for yourself in today’s busy world.
Go somewhere remote. Enjoy the silence. You will not regret it.
