You may be navigating discharge paperwork or insurance coverage. You may be wondering what is happening, what to expect, and what you're supposed to do next.

Sonoma County’s Health Officer has issued a freeze alert due to sub-freezing temperatures forecast tonight through Friday morning (1 AM–9 AM).
Prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures can cause hypothermia and frostbite, which can become life-threatening without prompt treatment. Symptoms of hypothermia include confusion, dizziness, severe shivering, slurred speech, exhaustion, drowsiness, weak pulse, and slow breathing. Call 911 immediately in an emergency.
Individuals who are unhoused are strongly encouraged to seek shelter. Winter shelters have expanded capacity on a first-come, first-served basis, and many provide wraparound services.
Cold Weather Safety Tips:
• Limit time outdoors, especially during the coldest hours
• Dress in layers, including a hat, gloves, scarf, and insulated boots
• Get out of wet clothes as soon as possible
• Bring pets indoors
• Drive slowly and watch for slick roads, ponding, and minor flooding
• Avoid excessive alcohol if you will be outdoors
• Check on neighbors, older adults, children, and vulnerable community members

Choosing connection doesn’t mean you’re enabling.
It’s choosing to understand before you correct.
It’s letting someone feel heard before you try to fix.
You can validate feelings.
You can set boundaries.
You can care and still say no.
Support works best when it feels safe. 💙

This Lunar New Year feels especially meaningful as we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse — a rare moment that comes around only once every 60 years.
The Horse is often associated with energy and forward movement. Paired with the fire element, it reflects boldness, determination, and the courage to embrace change.
At NAMI, we know that growth doesn’t always mean moving fast. Sometimes it means letting go of old patterns, staying grounded, and giving ourselves grace as we move forward.
As we celebrate, we’re reflecting on what it can look like to carry that Fire Horse energy into our mental health journeys — with intention, compassion, and hope.
Here’s to moving forward, together. 🧧✨

🗓️ Coming Soon! NAMI Family & Friends: This free, 90-minute presentation is designed for people who want practical tools to support a loved one living with a mental health condition.

Unlike our longer Family-to-Family course or our ongoing Family Support Groups, Family & Friends is a single-session overview, ideal for those who are new, unsure where to start, or just looking for foundational guidance without a multi-week commitment. We’re looking forward to offering this accessible introduction to families, partners, and friends in our community. Join the interest list at namisoco.org/familyfriends.
