PRACTICAL NON-MEDICAL BEDSIDE SKILLS TRAINING FOR DIVINE FIJIANS CAREGIVERS
Divine Fijians Home Care (DFHC) and its sister company Divine Fijians Supported Living Services, are committed to producing highly trained caregivers for its clients in California.
As part of the State’s annual requirement for home care agencies, caregivers are required to complete five-hours of in-house training, including orientation, safety, infection control and the proper use of assistive devices.
Almost 10 caregivers completed the agency’s first batch of practical bedside skills training last Friday, strengthening their knowledge of non-medical bedside care.
DFHC chief executive officer, Poasa Koroitamana, said Fijians have a strong reputation in the caregiving field, but continued is essential to raising the standard of care.
“As Fijians, we come from a country that truly values its seniors. It is in our blood to take of them,” he said.
“We bring that care culture to the United States, where we give hope to families, and we give our all when providing care.
“Our clients become a part of us.”
The training covered personal care, proper body mechanics, safe transfers, and the use of assistive devices.
“We have the zeal and compassion, but it is also important that we continue to build the right skillsets in this field,” said Mr Koroitamana.
The training is part of the agency’s ongoing weekly documentation training, which helps caregivers prepare their shift reports covering activities of daily living, client observations and paying close attention to medical red flags.
Recent training sessions included disaster preparedness and filing special incidental reports.
