"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of your self less. "
I don't recall the author-sorry. It is an interesting quote. However, not for teens or parents of teens. lol. Adolescence is a challenging time for all. The teen brain undergoes so many changes between 12-21 yrs of age. If your kid lacks humility- don't get stressed out about it. They lack humility because they cannot move away from the internal self focus their brain requires of them. It is not a choice it is not an "attitude", it is an organ-the brain. Fear not if your teen hates you and doesn't want to do the dishes like a "team player" right now. After age 21, they will most likely begin to have brain changes that allow them to show more compassion and humility. "Thanks for being my mom and being tough on me- I would not have made it with out you.", was a statement make by my 22 year old son after a some what turbulent adolescence. He hated me at 16yrs of age but calls me weekly and often for advice even! at age 30yrs. LOL Who woulda thunk it back in the day? Not me that's for sure. So, parents of teens. Breath deeply, say less, keep expectations in alignment with their reality and you too will make it to their 21st birthday.
