👏 🏆 Congrats to our latest TEA ROSE Award winner: Mikey Glover, Psychiatric Technician at SMH's Cornell Behavioral Health Pavilion.

The "TEA ROSE" award — or Technician Excellence Award Recognizing Outstanding Service & Experience — is a nomination-based honor given to standout patient-care technicians.

Mikey is a standout leader known for his compassion, teamwork and commitment to safety. He has an exceptional ability to connect with patients in crisis, meeting them exactly where they are — even in moments of intense distress. "I’ve seen him gently talk patients through their emotions, helping them regain control and preventing situations from escalating," shared a peer.

✨ Sarasota Memorial broke ground on SMH-North Port on Nov. 7, unveiling plans for a $507 million hospital campus that will bring the city its first acute-care hospital.

💙 The nine-story hospital and adjacent three-story medical office building are slated to open in 2028 with 100 beds, with space to grow to more than 400 as the community’s needs expand.

💬 “This is a historic milestone for our health system, North Port and the south county region,” Sarasota Memorial CEO David Verinder told a crowd of hospital and community leaders, SMH staff and physicians, elected officials and construction teams who gathered to mark the occasion.

🫁 💙 Sarasota Memorial’s Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute team has earned two new national designations during Lung Cancer Awareness Month — recognizing our commitment to early detection and the highest level of coordinated cancer care.

✨ Center of Excellence for Cancer Care
✨ Center of Excellence for Incidental Pulmonary Nodules

🙌 These honors join our existing Center of Excellence for Lung Cancer Screening, which highlights the life-saving power of catching lung cancer early.

💬 “If we can diagnose lung cancer early, and then immediately support that patient with top-tier cancer care — with all of the doctors and specialists working together — it can have a tremendous impact on outcomes. And we’re already seeing that,” said Amie Miller, ARNP, Lung Cancer Screening Program Coordinator at SMH.

This week, the Sarasota County Public Hospital Board named its new officers for 2026. Kevin Cooper, who represents the Board’s at-large Seat 2, will serve as the new chair.

Cooper was elected to the Hospital Board in 2024 and brings experience as a longtime business and civic leader. A Sarasota resident since 2008 and father of two children born at SMH, he currently serves as vice president for communications and strategic initiatives at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium. Previously, he served with the Ohio Army National Guard in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Experts are taking a proactive approach to fighting Parkinson’s by using specialized exercises and working with speech and physical therapists to help prevent the progression of the disease and allow patients to continue living their lives.

Through targeted therapy, many people with Parkinson’s can retrain muscles, maintain balance and mobility, strengthen their voice and even reverse symptoms for long periods of time.💙

✨ Sarasota Memorial recently celebrated 100 years of serving our community with a special reception and staff appreciation events.

When the 32-bed hospital opened on Nov. 2, 1925, it had just a dozen physicians and 10 nurses and staff caring for a community of about 12,000 people — treating only a few hundred patients a year.

💙 Today, SMH is the region’s largest employer, with more than 2,500 physicians and advanced practice providers, nearly 11,000 staff and about 2 million patient visits a year!
