Health Up Institute

Health Up Institute Creating a world of empowered, and knowledgeable patients committed to achieving optimal health.

Dr. Theresa Peter was born and raised in the small northern Michigan town of Alpena. It was with these roots she spent a lot of time outdoors, connecting with nature and becoming a budding scientist. Her interests lead her to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a Math minor, followed by working at Abbott as a research scientist. While at Abbott, she attended an Executive Master’s program from University of Michigan’s School of Public Health and earned a Master of Science degree in Industrial Health (Occupational and Environmental Health). After six years at Abbott, she started a family and has two beautiful children. She took a hiatus from work to raise her girls until school age, during which she continued her ever-expanding interests in what makes us healthy, balanced and complete. During this time she became a Yoga Instructor (RYT 200) and a Reiki Master Teacher (hands on holistic healing art). Instead of returning to work in the private sector, Dr. Peter knew she needed to work one on one with people in order to help them achieve optimal health. She decided to further her studies at National University of Health Sciences and obtained a degree as a chiropractic physician. During those studies, she continued her focus on biochemistry, botanicals, and nutrition. She also studied pharmacology to better help patients desiring to decrease their need for prescription medications. With her experience and knowledge, she combines muscle testing with clinical diagnostic tests, such as blood, urine, Hair Mineral Analysis, Saliva Hormone Testing (Bio-identical Hormone replacement therapy), Quantitative Iodine and Halide/Toxic Metal testing. She looks at her patients from a multi-dimensional approach and individualizes treatment plans for optimal health.

As men age, they naturally store more iron—something the body doesn’t easily eliminate on its own.

Blood donation is one of the few natural ways to help lower excess iron, supporting heart health, circulation, and cellular balance. Many men report feeling lighter, clearer, and more energized after donating.

🩸 Donate blood. Support longevity. Support life.

True healing starts with understanding the body — how it functions, what it needs, and how to support it at the root. Nutrition, mineral balance, lifestyle, and prevention play a critical role in thyroid health and long-term wellness.

Health isn’t just about treating symptoms — it’s about creating the right conditions for the body to thrive. 🌱

Stress and thyroid health are closely connected. Chronic stress can place significant strain on the thyroid and may contribute to the development or progression of conditions like Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease.

Supporting your thyroid also means supporting your nervous system. Gentle, low-impact movement — such as walking, swimming, Pilates, or yoga — can help lower stress hormones while improving circulation, balance, and overall well-being. Yoga, in particular, supports relaxation, reduces anxiety, and strengthens the body without overtaxing it.

Small, mindful daily choices can have a powerful impact on long-term thyroid health. 🌿

🍽️ Did you know, under-eating can stress the thyroid?

When the body senses inadequate energy intake, it conserves resources — often by slowing thyroid hormone production. Adequate calories and protein are essential for metabolic health, hormone balance, and long-term vitality.

🔍 Normal lab ranges don’t always reflect optimal function!

Many individuals are told their thyroid labs are “normal” despite ongoing symptoms. A functional approach looks deeper — considering symptoms, nutrient status, lifestyle factors, and how the thyroid interacts with the rest of the body.

🧂 Iodine is essential for thyroid hormone production!

Without adequate iodine, the thyroid cannot produce T4 and T3 hormones efficiently. Iodine deficiency remains surprisingly common and can contribute to thyroid dysfunction, fatigue, and metabolic imbalance.

Healthy iodine levels are foundational — not optional — for thyroid health. Learn more at: https://healthupinstitute.com/

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” — Maya Angelou

Education is one of the most powerful tools in health. When it comes to thyroid function, iodine levels, and whole-body balance, understanding what your body truly needs allows you to make informed, supportive decisions — not reactive ones.

Better knowledge leads to better care. 🦋

Did you know iron can build up in men’s blood as they age?

While iron is essential, excess iron may contribute to oxidative stress and inflammation. One simple way men can help maintain healthy iron balance—and give back at the same time—is by donating blood.

🩸 Regular blood donation supports circulation, helps manage iron levels, and may play a role in long-term vitality. Giving blood doesn’t just save lives—it can support yours too.

❄️ Movement remains essential during the winter months!

Consistent activity helps regulate blood sugar, support metabolism, improve circulation, and boost mood — all of which benefit thyroid function. Movement doesn’t need to be intense to be effective. 🙌🏻

“The body has an extraordinary ability to heal itself when given the right conditions.” — Mark Hyman, MD

When the body is properly nourished, supported, and balanced, healing becomes possible. Thyroid health depends on key factors like adequate nutrition, healthy iodine levels, stress support, and movement — not quick fixes.

Support the conditions, and the body can do what it was designed to do. ✨
