Do you know your A1C?
And why “Skinny” does not = Healthy.

I recently saw a “skinny”, 40-year-old patient with an A1C of 11.

A1C is your 3-month average blood
and it’s the gold standard for diagnosing diabetes.

-Normal: < 5.4
-Prediabetes: 5.7–6.4
-Diabetes: ≥ 6.5

The thing about your A1C that I love is it doesn’t care if you had a “good” week.

Think of it like Santa 🎅

It’s watching everything—calculating all of your behavior over 3 months not just your best week

And here’s the bigger problem…

We’ve been conditioned to believe that skinny = healthy.

The images flooding our feeds
The “fit” bodies
The unrealistic standards

Because health isn’t just what you see.

It’s what’s happening in your body
It’s what your labs are showing
It’s what your habits look like over time.

Have you been able to lower your A1C on your own? If so—how? We’d love to know.

Curious what your A1C means or how to lower it?

Drop a comment and we’ll send you the need-to-know!

We’re always looking for better ways to make health information actually stick especially when we are speaking to children!

So… meet Harry the Heart ❤️

Let’s be honest—health isn’t just about what we know.
It’s about what we do when the cravings hit.

Late-night chips.
Cookies you didn’t plan on eating.
That “just one more” moment we all know too well.

Processed foods are designed to keep us coming back.
It’s not a willpower problem—it’s biology meeting marketing.

So how do you not cave to the crave and how do we help kids beat these patterns young in order to prevent those chronic diseases dominating health charts.

This is exactly what we’ll be talking about today in South Florida, and I’m excited to be part of the Visiting Nurse Association of Florida!

This is an organization that’s truly making an impact in the community—and even more excited to bring real, practical health strategies into everyday life!

Feel free to chat about what foods you crave and how you avoid caving to them!

Are you carrying something that’s not yours ?

“Christina- “Hey Albert, taking a peek at your old records and labs and it says you have COPD.”

Wait what? COPD, I’ve never been told that and I’ve never smoked.”

One hospital note—10 years ago:

“rule out COPD exacerbation.”

Not confirmed. Just considered.

What he actually had?
Empyema. Nasty little lung infection he had a procedure to resolve during that hospital admission.

Pulmonary tests later? ( how we diagnose COPD) Normal. Lungs clear as a whistle my exam. No episodes of any cough or lung issues in 10 years.

But no one ever corrected the chart.

So it stayed.
For a decade.
And he carried those discharge papers home after every visit with his primary.. but never read them.

Lesson:
Check your records. Read your paperwork. Ask questions.

Because if you don’t—
you might carry a diagnosis that was never yours to carry.

Excited to bring some of my favorite collaborators to the table next Saturday!

Starting off with chair yoga from the fabulous Heather Ann Terrell, opening presentation by Fusella Family Medicine who is bringing a fresh take on their concierge model to primary care and ending with a presentation that’s sure to make you “fall” for them with TKT Insurance Agency-Simplify Medicare ànd Sherry Zuckerman Ashery.

We can’t wait to see you there ❤️

We had a great evening this week with our Health Is Home community session at Wildwood Programs!

We gave away containers of buddha bowls made and talked about why so many people feel exhausted by mid-afternoon — often not from lack of food, but from the way our meals affect blood sugar and energy.

Small changes in how we build our plates can make a big difference.

Because in the end, full isn’t the same as fueled.

Never have I ever .. had a patient walk into my office and say,
“Hey Christina, I was really hoping for high cholesterol this year.”

But I have had plenty look at me and say,
“I just love food.”

And honestly? I get it. Like I love food too!!

Because food is emotional.
Food is cultural.
Food is connection.

It’s the smell in the kitchen.
It’s family traditions.
It’s stress relief after a long day.

We don’t want the diagnosis.
We just love the comfort.

And that’s exactly why the events where we’re actually cooking and giving away food in glass containers like this one last week with the Mental Health Empowerment Project, Inc.— where you could smell the spices, the real ingredients — spark more conversation than any lecture ever could!

Check out Health Is Home for more info on future events 👏
