Center United 4 Support of Backstretch Workers

Center United 4 Support of Backstretch Workers Mission: To support and improve the lives of the Saratoga Race Track backstretch workers who work and live in Saratoga, New York.

Allow us to inform you about our new endeavor. Several dedicated volunteers from the Saratoga, New York area have formed an advocacy/support organization called Center United for Support of Backstretch Workers. We are located at 24 Circular Street, Saratoga, New York 12866. Below is information that you may find helpful to describe our new organization. Any assistance you might be able to give us to achieve our goals will be greatly appreciated. Goals: The Center is an all volunteer group of individuals who will provide goods, services and support wherever and whenever possible and as needed. If The Center cannot provide the support, we will look to other professional organizations or individuals that may be able to meet the need. We will provide much needed items (including but not limited to) bikes, small appliances, clothes, toiletries and non perishable foods. We will strive to be a complete informational center in areas of immigration, law and medical and will provide resource information, whenever possible, in order to help migrant workers find assistance. We will also provide transportation when volunteers are available

Funding: The Center relies solely on the generosity of Saratoga (and surrounding area) residents.

We are sad to announce that we will not be officially open this year. However, we are taking orders for brand new work boots for workers at the Saratoga Racecourse. Contact me directly and let me know your size. We will be shopping sometime in the next 2 weeks and we will call you to let you know when you can pick up your boots.

The crowds are gone and workers are leaving for Belmont, Florida and Kentucky. Some will travel back to their country to spend time with their families. We will miss everyone and want to thank them all for making Saratoga the premier racetrack in the country. Without our hard working folks, Saratoga would not exist.

Tuesday, October 15th will be our final day for the season. Workers remain in Saratoga until November 15th.

Although we will be officially closed until April, 2020, we will be available if anyone has an emergency and needs something.

Until November 15th, call 518-469-2661 if you are in need of any items.

Our Center remains open until approximately October 15th.

As the racing nears the end, we are thankful for another successful season, due to our generous donors and volunteers.

Some trainers remain on Saratoga until November 15th. If a worker needs something, we provide a phone number to call. We will open The Center for emergency situations.

Many people travel back to their country but many live in Belmont, New York for the cold months. We continue to take clothing and items they need for cold winter months.

We also encourage workers to come to our Center to look at items they may want to send home to their families. We do this because we are blessed to receive numerous donations in April, 2020, when we reopen.

Thank you again for all you do. Without our workers, there would be no Saratoga. And without our generous donors and volunteers there would be no Center.

It is with great sadness that we report that the Queen of Saratoga has passed away. Read about Mary Lou Whitney and what she contributed to Saratoga. She will be missed.

Marie Louise "Marylou" Whitney (née Schroeder; born December 24, 1925) is a philanthropist and socialite. Whitney has many residences, first and foremost her "Cady Hill" estate in Saratoga Springs New York, a massive camp in the Adirondacks, a farm near Lexington, Kentucky, a winter home in Florida...

Every day, we, at the Center United, feel blessed.

The backstretch workers love our Center. Here, they can browse at their leisure, and because of our generous donors, the workers can take as much as they need. Their happy faces tell the story because not only do they find items that they need, they know and trust our volunteers. And every smile is worth the effort to make them happy and comfortable while they are here in Saratoga, New York.
