Our classes help strengthen your body while calming the mind in a supportive and welcoming community. We welcome you to experience the classes that best suit your needs and interests. Our classes are listed by level of difficulty from easiest to most challenging. All Northern Life Yoga level 1 classes are pre-natal friendly - please inform your instructor in advance so modifications can be provided for each phase of your pregnancy. Chair Yoga modifies standard yoga poses to allow anyone with physical limitations to experience the full benefits of yoga from the comfort of a chair. This class is ideal for those who do not wish to get up or down from the mat due to knee or hip issues. Gentle Yoga combines mat-based poses and standing poses at a pace that makes it easy for beginners to acclimate to the practice of yoga, while enjoying the benefits of peace and relaxation for the mind and body. Candlelight Gentle Yin focuses on deep relaxation through restorative and yin poses that support the body with props through longer holds to nurture the joints, muscles and connective tissues. With a relaxing candlelight ambience, this mid-week stress reduction class is an ideal way to refresh the mind and body through gentle postures and breath work. (Gentle) Yoga Sculpt and Barre blend strength training, flexibility, and mindfulness to enhance your yoga practice with resistance. Ideal for all fitness levels to tone muscles, improve endurance, and achieve a balanced mind-body connection. Slow Flow involves slowly progressing yoga sequences and longer holds to strengthen and tone the entire body while providing the foundations for a vinyasa style (yoga flow) class at a gentler pace. Modifications provided to suit all levels. Vinyasa to Yin balances movement and stillness in 60-minutes. Experience a dynamic flow, linking breath with movement to build heat, strength, and flexibility. Transition to calming, meditative Yin poses to deeply stretch connective tissues and promote relaxation. Yoga Flow is an active vinyasa styled class of flowing movements at a varied pace to build heat, strength and flexibility. Focus varies weekly on therapeutic areas including hips, hamstrings, shoulders, back and core/balance. While some yoga experience is helpful, beginners seeking an active workout are welcome. Modifications make each practice attainable for beginner flow clients and challenging for seasoned practitioners. A challenging workout combined with a deep stretch and mindfulness.

Level 1 (Beginner) provides a supportive environment in which beginning students can learn the foundation of a yoga practice, while the more experienced practitioner will be able to fine tune the fundamentals of their practice. All Northern Life Yoga level 1 classes are pre-natal friendly - please inform your instructor in advance so modifications can be provided for each phase of your pregnancy.
Level 1-2 (Beginner and Intermediate options) offer options for all levels: gentle practice options for beginners and active options for those who want an energetic experience involving creativity to explore more challenging poses at an active tempo.
Level 2 classes (Experienced) - intermediate/advanced flow for experienced yoga practitioners who have been practicing vinyasa style yoga consistently for 6 months or more.
Yoga Flow with Allie & Jennifer - A vinyasa-style sequence of yoga postures, linking breath to movement to enhance, flexibility, strength, range of motion and concentration. Sequencing flows with fun, upbeat music. Focus on different therapeutic areas of the body varies each week. Gentle and active practice options provided to accommodate all levels.
Gentle Candlelight Yoga (best class for beginners!) - A slower-paced, gentle flowing yoga class set to soothing music to relax your body and calm your mind in a warm, candlelit atmosphere. Great introductory yoga class for beginners to learn the fundamentals of yoga.
Tuesday's Gentle Yoga 101 provides additional instruction to allow beginners to learn more about the practice and feel comfortable in a group class.
Gentle Yoga classes (ideal for beginners!) is appropriate for anyone interested in yoga who might be concerned about the level of fitness required. If you are getting into shape, tight and stiff, or just prefer a gentler yoga practice, this is the class for you! Poses are sequenced to ease your body into a more active state. Emphasis placed on breath awareness and proper alignment. Gentle yoga provides numerous health benefits, including stress reduction, improved circulation, lower blood pressure, increased balance and flexibility, a calmer mind, and improved sleep. All levels and abilities are welcome.
Chair Yoga with Nancy Larsen
Chair yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair. These modifications make yoga accessible to people who have various physical limitations or who find other types of yoga classes a bit too challenging. Chair yoga can also be a great introduction to yoga for those who are first-time yogis! While seated on chairs, students can do versions of twists, hip stretches, forward bends, and mild backbends. In addition to a good stretch, chair yoga participants can enjoy other health benefits from yoga, including improved muscle tone, better breathing habits, reduction of stress, better sleep, and a sense of well being.
Core Strength & Stretch with Maxx Anderson
Join the always popular and enthusiastic fitness instructor, Maxx, for her all-levels uniquely branded "Maxx yoga" class. This class focuses on enhanced muscle tone for a stronger core and proper posture, while emphasizing overall body awareness with active stretching. Students always leave Maxx's classes feeling upbeat, relaxed and refreshed!
Pilates with Kristi Cleary - This mat based pilates class will work to balance the strength and flexibility of all muscle groups, with an emphasis on challenging the core muscles with each movement. Pilates mat is a challenging yet safe method to sculpt your body and to feel increased agility in your every day movements. This class is open to all levels - whether you're a beginner or experienced with pilates, you'll leave with your core and posture strengthened! Modifications are suggested for beginners or for those with physical limitations.
Belly Dance with Lola Kennedy
Belly Dance is one of the oldest and most evolved forms of dance in the world. Stretch and tone your body while you learn this ancient and beautiful feminine art! The movements of belly dance will sculpt and firm your body, while increasing your stamina and grace. Class will include warm-up, basic moves, and techniques. However, there is no choreography to memorize. You'll be guided to just allow the music to mesmerize you while you enjoy this fun, empowering movement!
