π£ Let's talk about licorice root! Often folks hear the word licorice and think GROSS! But licorice the candy is not the same as licorice root, this powerful root does so much and doesn't taste at all like you think!
π« Licorice Root is a fantastic balm to tummy issues, sore throats & improves respiratory health! When taken in small doses (like a cup of tea!) it can help gastrointestinal inflammation and calm throat scratch & irritation. When applied topically it can help alleviate eczema and other skin allergies! So many benefits!
It always makes me sad when people write off a blend because they see that word "licorice" - it really gets a bad wrap! Mostly because people think of black licorice candy. (gross!)
The flavor of licorice root is almost like a minty syrup. Creating a soft menthol effect. It can be very prominent or hidden and barely tasted, but always felt.
In my πΏ Healing Hope blend, the licorice root flavor is barely noted. It acts as a quiet throat coat and is felt more than tasted while tempering the tartness of hibiscus flower.
In the πΎ Mosh Monster, the licorice root shines. A primary ingredient for this sore throat healing brew! The primary active ingredient combined with other helpful herbs like slippery elm & goldenberries.
In my π΅ Pure Serenity blend it sits right in the middle of the various herbal ingredients, adding its properties to aid in the winter colds we are all becoming more familiar with by the minute. Blended with mullein & eucalyptus to help relieve respiratory stress & head congestion.
And lastly, my most favorite green tea blend β¨οΈ Lifted Spirit, the licorice root accents the sweet rose hips & softens the ginger spiciness. This brew is the perfect spiced mint tea. I drink it all year. ππΌ
TLDR; Don't be afraid of licorice root, friends! It's a powerful root herb and a great addition in these cold winter months! Just remember, all things in moderation. So don't go drinking 10 cups of it in one sitting, you might end up with high BP!
Happy Steeping! πΏπ«π΅ππΌ
