Meet Heidi! (If you haven’t already)
Heidi is a Licensed Practical Nurse with more than 20 years of dedicated experience in women’s health. A proud fourth-generation nurse, she began her career after completing her LPN program in Kentucky in 2004. Since relocating to Savannah in 2006, Heidi has centered her work on maternal health, inspired by an early encounter with a midwife that first introduced her to the midwifery model of care.

In her current role for 19 years, Heidi leads the Birth Assistant and Nursing team, overseeing daily clinical operations, coordinating and facilitating staff training, leading emergency preparedness drills, and managing facility logistics and tours. As an integral member of the birth team, she provides hands-on clinical support, education, and compassionate encouragement to families throughout pregnancy, labor, and birth. Heidi was honored as Connect Savannah’s Best Nurse for eight consecutive years, from 2013 to 2020.

Outside of her professional work, Heidi enjoys traveling with her husband and family, reading, listening to music, and knitting hats for newborns at the birth center.

Mindful Movement… what is it?
Pelvic tilts can be such a simple movement with a big impact 💪🏻✨

⭐️ Why practice pelvic tilts?
Targeted pelvic tilt exercises offer two major benefits:
• Short-term relief: They can ease pain, reduce stiffness, and help strengthen your core.
• Long-term support: They encourage a neutral pelvic alignment, which creates more space in the pelvis and lower back. This helps reduce strain on soft tissues and prevents muscle imbalances over time.

A neutral pelvis promotes comfort, balance, and better overall movement—especially important during pregnancy!

🌸 Postpartum Recovery: What to Expect in the First Weeks After Birth 🌸

Your body has just done something incredible—and the postpartum period is a time of healing, adjustment, and transformation. At Savannah Birth and Wellness Center, we believe in preparing families for what’s normal and helping you feel supported every step of the way.

✨ Lochia (Postpartum Bleeding):
It’s normal to experience bleeding and discharge for several weeks after birth. The flow gradually changes from bright red to pinkish-brown to a light yellow/white as healing progresses. Rest, hydration, and avoiding heavy lifting help your body recover naturally.

✨ Physical Healing:
Whether you had a vaginal birth or cesarean, healing takes time. You may experience perineal soreness, cramping (as your uterus shrinks), or swelling. Ice packs, peri rinses, herbal sitz baths, and rest are wonderful tools to support healing.

✨ Mood & Emotional Changes:
Hormonal shifts in the postpartum period can lead to mood changes or feelings of overwhelm (often called the “baby blues”). These usually ease within two weeks. If feelings of sadness, anxiety, or disconnection persist, you are not alone—and we are here with compassionate support and resources.
