WE LOVE THE JOY WE CAN BRING TO ONE ANOTHER! 🎨
What a special surprise at HMC Health & Rehabilitation Center.🎨 Mr. Robert Williams, an artist and the husband of one of our nursing home residents, drew this amazing portrait of Ms. Annie Franks as a gift for her and her family.
Ms. Annie’s first reaction? “That’s the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen!” 😂 We think it's beautiful, Ms. Annie, and so are you!

What is "Skilled Nursing"?

We often hear the term, but what does it really mean?

Skilled nursing refers to a higher level of care that involves medical and rehabilitative services provided by licensed healthcare professionals, either in a facility or at home. It goes beyond the basic support provided in assisted living settings, focusing on recovery from illness, surgery, or injury, as well as managing chronic conditions. This care is typically supervised by a registered nurse (RN) or other licensed professionals and includes therapies, medication management, and assistance with daily living activities.

Key Aspects of Skilled Nursing
Medical Care:
Skilled nursing encompasses a wide range of medical services, including wound care, IV therapy, injections, and continuous monitoring of vital signs.

Rehabilitation:
This care often incorporates physical, occupational, and speech therapy to help patients regain independence and functionality after illness or surgery.

Skilled Professionals:
Services are delivered by or under the supervision of licensed nurses, therapists, and other qualified healthcare professionals.

Settings:
Skilled nursing care can be provided in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), hospitals, or even through home health services.

Short-Term vs. Long-Term:
Skilled nursing care can be either short-term, for recovery after surgery or illness, or long-term for chronic conditions requiring continuous medical oversight.

Skilled Nursing vs. Nursing Homes:
While both skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and nursing homes offer care, SNFs are designed explicitly for short-term rehabilitation and medical services. In contrast, nursing homes generally provide long-term care, assisting with daily activities and offering ongoing medical supervision.
