This is a common challenge that can happen due to fatigue, stress, or language processing difficulties. It’s also linked to executive function skills, which help us organize thoughts and retrieve words efficiently. Here’s how to improve word-finding:

🔹 Use Semantic Cues – If you can’t find a word, describe its function, shape, or category. Example: “It’s something you write with… oh! A pen!”
🔹 Strengthen Connections – Practice associating words with related concepts. For example, if you’re thinking of “apple,” also think of “fruit, orchard, red, crisp.”
🔹 Engage in Active Word Retrieval – Play naming games, like listing as many animals or foods as possible in one minute, to improve access to vocabulary.
🔹 Use Visual Imagery – Picture the word in your mind before saying it. This strengthens memory and recall.
🔹 Give Yourself Processing Time – A short pause allows your brain to access the right word instead of feeling rushed or frustrated.

Word-finding difficulties can happen to anyone, but practicing these strategies can improve fluency, confidence, and ease in daily conversations. If you or a loved one need support with speech or language, we’re here to help! 💬

With no school structure, screen time can easily take over—but managing it is key for strengthening executive function skills, which help kids with ADHD stay organized, regulate emotions, and complete tasks. Here’s why these strategies matter:

🎨 Create a fun activity jar – Executive function relies on flexible thinking and planning. When kids choose activities from a jar, they practice making decisions and adjusting to new ideas.

⏰ Use a visual timer – Time management is a core executive function skill. Visual timers help kids develop an awareness of how long activities take and learn to transition between tasks more smoothly.

🧩 Encourage hands-on play – Executive function includes problem-solving and working memory. Activities like Legos, crafting, or puzzles help kids practice persistence, patience, and creative thinking.

💤 Keep bedtime consistent – Self-regulation is crucial for executive function. Sticking to a bedtime routine supports emotional control, attention, and energy levels for the next day.

Balancing screen time isn’t just about limiting distractions—it’s about building the brain’s ability to plan, focus, and stay flexible! What’s your child’s favorite screen-free activity? 💬👇

Language development starts before birth! Around 25 weeks into pregnancy, babies begin to hear sounds from the outside world, including their parents’ voices. 🤩

Research shows that newborns can recognize and prefer the sounds and rhythms of their native language, which means talking, reading, and singing to your baby—even before birth—can help lay the foundation for strong communication skills later in life! 👶

ADHD and executive function challenges often go hand-in-hand, but what does that actually mean? Executive function is like the brain’s “management system” – it helps with planning, organizing, remembering, and following through on tasks. When these skills are weak, everyday activities can feel overwhelming.

If your child struggles with:
🚦 Following multi-step directions – They might forget steps, get distracted in the middle, or feel stuck before even starting.
📌 Remembering tasks – Homework, chores, or even bringing their backpack home from school can be a daily challenge.
⏳ Managing time – They may underestimate how long things take, rush at the last minute, or get sidetracked by distractions.

It’s NOT laziness – it’s an executive function challenge! Their brain simply needs extra support to develop these skills.

The good news? With the right strategies and tools, kids with ADHD can strengthen executive function skills and build confidence in their daily lives. Professional support, structured routines, and simple adjustments can make a world of difference.

Did you know that by age 2, most toddlers should have around 50 words and start combining them into two-word phrases like “more juice” or “big truck”? Every child develops at their own pace, but if they’re struggling to express themselves, early support can make a big difference!

👶 How Can You Help?
A simple way to encourage language growth is through expansion and modeling—which means taking what your child says and building on it.

✨ Example:
👧 Child: “Dog!”
👩‍👧 You: “Yes! The big dog is running fast!” 🐶💨

Here’s why this works:
✅ Expands their vocabulary by introducing new words
✅ Teaches sentence structure by showing how words connect
✅ Encourages back-and-forth communication, which is key for speech development

💡 When to Seek Help?
If your child isn’t using at least 50 words by age 2, struggles to imitate sounds, or gets frustrated when trying to communicate, a speech therapist can help provide guidance and strategies tailored to their needs.
