It's been a great ski season so far!⛷️❄️
Staying strong now means fewer injuries and better days on the mountain. Focus on leg strength, core stability, and balance training to keep your turns smooth and your knees happy. If you have an injury and you want a ski-specific strength plan, we can help—see you on the slopes!

The most common skiing injuries happen to the lower limb, most commonly the knee. These tips from physical therapist can reduce your risk of being injured.

Thank you to Dr Sarah Shubert for presenting for us at our quarterly educational meeting.
It's always important to stay up to date with current concepts in shoulder surgery and rehab so that we can all provide the best care possible!

Maine Clinic’s Quarterly In-Service 📚

Last night we were able to host Dr. Sarah Shubert with Northern Light Orthopedics. It was a very productive meeting with a lot of information shared.

It’s wonderful when we can all come together and discuss what the latest, most evidence-based practices look like.

There is a lot to consider with any surgery and the rehab process following that procedure. Not every rotator cuff or joint replacement is the same. Staying current and open discussions like this help us all, but most importantly it helps you, the patient!

A huge thank you to Dr. Shubert for taking some time to connect with our group of PT providers.

Great way to get out and get some exercise!

With all the fresh snow on our trails, it’s a great time to get outside! We now offer adult and youth snowshoes available to borrow for free! ❄

Stop by the Scarborough Land Trust office (25 Plaza Drive, Unit 6, Scarborough) to pick up snowshoes and find the best trails to snowshoe. For more information or check on availability, give us a call at (207) 289-1199. Snowshoes are free and available on a first-come basis (some exceptions apply).

We at Advanced wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a happy Olympics as we go for gold! Recently, we’ve been getting questions about Lindsey Vonn’s complete anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture — specifically, how she is competing without a fully functional ACL.
There are a few factors that may be contributing to Vonn’s ability to compete despite her injury. When someone tears their ACL, they are often categorized as either a “coper” or a “non-coper.” An ACL coper demonstrates good knee stability, meaning the knee does not frequently give way. Copers typically maintain full range of motion, strong muscle performance with less than a 30% deficit compared to the uninjured leg, and the ability to pass functional hop tests. Given that Vonn recently posted a workout showing loaded squats, jumps, and explosive lunges, we can infer that she still possesses significant strength and stability. Another contributing factor may be the use of a brace to help maintain knee support. Finally, she is a remarkable athlete with an exceptional foundation of pre-injury strength.
Are there risks to skiing with a completely torn ACL? Absolutely. Compensation patterns can increase the risk of additional injury. However, these risks may be relatively small when weighed against her preparation, experience, and elite athleticism. Considering she has raced down mountains at speeds approaching 80 mph, Vonn is certainly no stranger to taking calculated risks.
We’re all hoping Vonn brings home the gold — and that everyone enjoys the Olympics!

It’s hard to believe that five years have passed since Mike and I became owners/partners of Advanced Physical Therapy. We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received over the past five years—especially considering we began this journey during such sad, uncertain, and unpredictable times.

Since then, we’ve continued to grow and truly "Advance". Our goal was never just to survive, but to thrive—and to stay committed to what has always mattered most: providing high-quality care and strong advocacy for our patients.

Along the way, we’ve developed a deep dedication to the Scarborough community. We’re proud to be booster sponsors for Scarborough High School softball, football, track, volleyball, basketbal, hockey, and swimming. We’ve also supported the Scarborough Land Trust and the Scarborough Library, and we successfully hosted our first November food drive this year for the Scarborough Food Pantry--something we’re excited to grow even more in the year ahead.

Most importantly, we are honored to have awarded annual scholarships for the past five years to a Scarborough High School senior in memory of Advanced PT’s founder, Scott Lemelin, helping students with their college expenses.

We’ve weathered a pandemic, ongoing changes in health insurance, evolving documentation systems, and more curveballs than we can count—and we’re still standing strong.

As we head into 2026, we’re excited for what’s ahead and look forward to continuing to help our patients reach their goals and overcome both new and old injuries. Thank you for being part of our journey. 💙
