At NorDx, we’re always thinking about the providers and practice teams delivering care every day. Last week, our team partnered with the MaineHealth Innovation Team for the first session of a multi-phase project dedicated to strengthening the onboarding experience. Our mission is simple: remove friction, improve communication, and make onboarding new clients as smooth and intuitive as possible; without adding work to already busy practices. 🍁 At NorDx, we don’t just work together — we take care of each other.
Yesterday our leadership team hosted a full Thanksgiving feast for our staff, and it was our privilege to serve the incredible individuals who are on the front lines every day — in our labs, patient service centers, logistics, client services, and everywhere in between.

This is more than a workplace. It’s a family of Mainers serving Mainers.
We live in the same towns, send our kids to the same schools, and care for the same communities. The pride that comes with providing fast, reliable, high-quality lab services right here at home is something we feel every day — and especially during moments like this.

As we head into the holiday season, we’re grateful for:

Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15-October 15. The origins of Hispanic Heritage Month go back 57 years to 1968. It started as a week and is now observed as a month-long celebration recognizing the history, culture and contributions of the U.S. Latino and Hispanic communities. There are many ways to celebrate, including supporting local businesses, listening to Hispanic music or visiting the online National Museum of the American Latino.

July is Disability Pride Month. Disability Pride Month was created to celebrate and accept each person's uniqueness and to recognize the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in July 1990. It is also intended to bring awareness to and confront ableism, which is discrimination against people with physical or mental disabilities.

According to the CDC, more than 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. have some type of disability. People with disabilities are the largest minority group in the U.S. You can participate in Disability Pride Month by sharing your story or amplifying others’ voices, attending an event or being an advocate for equitable opportunities.

We are pleased to announce that Marc Couturier, PhD, has joined NorDx | MaineHealth as our new Director of Clinical Microbiology.

Dr. Couturier comes to us from Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was a Professor of Pathology at the University of Utah and served as the Head of Medical Operations for Microbiology and Immunology at ARUP Laboratories, which is one of the largest academic not-for-profit reference laboratories in the country. He led several sections at ARUP, including bacteriology, molecular detection, parasitology, and infectious disease rapid testing.

A recognized leader in the field of clinical microbiology, Dr. Couturier has a productive clinical research program, with over 65 peer-reviewed publications and multiple book chapters in major clinical microbiology texts. He has served on several CDC task forces and committees, including the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee (CLIAC). Dr. Couturier is also an excellent educator and mentor, providing regular lectures and bench-side instruction to medical students, resident and fellow physicians, and laboratorians.
Born and raised in Maine, Marc went on to receive his BS in Biology at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, a Ph.D in Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Alberta. He did a post-doctoral fellowship at the Alberta Provincial Laboratory for Public Health and at the University of Utah.
We are happy to welcome Dr. Couturier on our team and look forward to continued improvement in the care provided to our patients, caregivers and our communities.
