⭐NEW LOCATION FOR 2026⭐

It's time to mark your calendars for the next Repair Cafe Schenectady! In our continuing efforts to best serve our community, we have relocated Repair Cafe Schenectady for the start of 2026!

Join us
Saturday, February 7th
from 10am to 2pm at
St. Stephen's Church,
1229 Baker Ave, Schenectady, NY 12309.

Bring in your broken but treasured items: jewelry, dolls, toys, watched, clocks, clothing, ceramics, wooden objects, lamps & small electric appliances, mechanical items (no fuel engines), bikes, blade sharpening, and sometimes there's even a take apart table for the kids to try their hands at repair.

Repairs* are FREE, and done by volunteer repair coaches, but are not guaranteed. Even if we can't fix it, we have a good time trying! *LIMIT 2 ITEMS PER HOUSEHOLD PER EVENT*

When it comes to gift wrapping for the people we love this holiday season, there are a few small ways we can reduce, reuse, and recycle right. 🛍️

Choose wrapping paper made from recycled materials.
Try wrapping your gifts with newspaper or brown craft paper for a unique and personal touch. (you can doodle or stamp on your own designs!)
Reuse gift bags from previous years. While those bags with foils or metallic finishes aren’t recyclable, they can definitely be saved and reused to spread joy again next year.
Remember, wrapping paper WITHOUT glitter, metallic finishes, or foil can be recycled once you’re done with it.

Reduce waste and spread holiday cheer, simultaneously!

Feeling overwhelmed by all the different packaging materials that arrive with your deliveries?

You're not alone. Navigating what can and can't be recycled can be confusing. Here’s a helpful list of common packaging items that definitely DO NOT belong in your recycling bin:

• Plastic Padded Mailers: These typically contain a layer of bubble wrap or are made entirely of plastic. Instead of tossing them in your recycling bin, take them to specific drop-off locations that accept plastic bags and film.

• Foam Peanuts & Blocks: These lightweight materials are not accepted in most curbside recycling programs. Look for special recycling programs or drop-off locations that handle expanded polystyrene foam.

• Plastic Air Pillows & Bubble Wrap: While convenient for protecting your items during travel, these also need to be taken to drop-off locations that accept plastic bags and film. Considered a “tangler”, these items can cause mechanical issues in recycling facilities.

For a complete list of non-accepted items, you can check your local program rules on our website at recyclerightny.org/local-recycling-guidelines. ♻
