🌿 Allergies, Histamine & a More Holistic Approach
If allergy season has been hitting you harder lately, there’s often more going on beneath the surface.
In my practice, I look at allergies through a root-cause lens—and histamine plays a central role.
Histamine is important for the body, but when it becomes imbalanced, it can contribute to:
• Sneezing + congestion
• Skin reactions
• Digestive issues
• Brain fog, anxiety, and sleep struggles
🌱 That’s why I love incorporating essential oils into my protocols.
They can help support the body by:
✨ Calming inflammation
✨ Supporting detox pathways
✨ Enhancing digestion
✨ Reducing oxidative stress
✨ Regulating the nervous system
🌿 Some of my go-to oils include:
🌸 Lavender – calming for body + mind
🌿 Peppermint – helpful for head tension + breathing
🌱 Eucalyptus – supports open, comfortable airways
🍋 Lemon – assists detox + lymphatic flow
🌳 Frankincense – grounding + immune support
🌼 Plus, I often incorporate a Histamine Support Blend—designed to support inflammation, mast cell activity, and nervous system balance.
✨ This kind of synergy is where essential oils really shine.
And one of the most overlooked connections?
👉 Histamine + mood.
🌿 Essential oils offer a beautiful way to support both the body and mind—gently and holistically.

The difference between mental health and behavioral health isn’t something most people think about… but it can completely change how we approach healing.
Mental health is often described as our thoughts and emotions—how we feel.
Behavioral health is about what we do—our habits, patterns, and how those internal experiences show up in daily life.
But here’s what I see every day in practice:
✨ They are deeply connected—and you can’t truly address one without the other.
When we only focus on thoughts or symptoms, we miss the bigger picture.
As a brain health, functional, and naturopathic doctor, I look at what’s driving both the feelings and the patterns.
That includes:
🧠 Brain function
🧬 Biology + physiology
🌿 Lifestyle + environmental inputs
🔄 Habits, patterns, and stress responses
Because behavior is often just a reflection of what’s happening beneath the surface.
This is also why I incorporate tools like essential oils 🌸—they can directly support the limbic system (our emotional brain), helping to gently shift mood, stress responses, and even behavior patterns over time (impacting neuroplasticity).
Healing isn’t one-dimensional.
It looks like:
✔ Supporting the brain 🧠
✔ Nourishing the body 🌿
✔ Rewiring patterns 🔄
✔ Personalizing care ✨
This is where integrative, root-cause, brain-based care is changing the future of health.
💬 I’d love to hear your thoughts—
Have you ever considered the difference between mental health and behavioral health? Or noticed how they show up differently in your life?

Your mindset isn’t just a thought process.
It’s a physiological experience your body is responding to in real time 🧠⚡
From a naturopathic + functional medicine perspective, how you perceive stress directly influences your nervous system, brain function, and overall health.
When stress becomes chronic, the body doesn’t just “feel overwhelmed”…
It can get stuck in a survival pattern 🚨 (fight/flight) instead of returning to regulation 🌿 (rest/repair)
And over time, that affects:
• clarity of thought 🧠
• emotional resilience 💛
• energy and burnout patterns 🔋
• sleep quality 🌙
• long-term brain + body health 🌱
The good news? Small, intentional daily practices can shift this pattern.
🔍 In this video, we explore:
• How chronic stress affects the nervous system
• The connection between mindset and physiology
• The stress response (sympathetic vs. parasympathetic)
• Practical tools like mindfulness, breathwork, and intentional pauses 🌬️
• How small daily practices build long-term resilience
These aren’t “quick fixes”—they’re nervous system signals that help the body learn safety again.

🧠 What if we’ve been approaching brain health—and nutrition—all wrong?
Emerging research shows: the same diet does not work for everyone.
For those with the APOE4 gene, higher intake of unprocessed meat was linked to slower cognitive decline and lower dementia risk, while lower intake showed the opposite.
Other research shows Mediterranean-style diets may help in the same group.
So what does this mean?
🧬 Brain health is not about rigid rules
🔍 Understanding genetics, metabolism, and individuality is key
⚖️ The “best diet” depends on who you are biologically
🥦 Assessing nutrients the brain needs for optimization while personalizing diet is critical
📊 I also use general nutrient recommendations for brain health and then tailor them to the individual
This is precision nutrition—the future of cognitive care.
In my practice, I look at what each brain truly needs to thrive.
Because “eat this, not that” isn’t medicine.
💡 Personalization is.

🌿✨ Hair growth is more than skin deep—it’s about supporting the scalp, follicles, and nervous system.
Emerging research shows essential oils can help support hair growth by:
🧠 Regulating stress pathways that impact hair cycles
🩸 Increasing scalp circulation
🦠 Supporting microbial balance on the scalp
🔥 Reducing inflammation around hair follicles
Some of my go-to essential oils for hair health:
🌿 Rosemary – supports circulation + studied for hair growth
🌲 Cedarwood – helps balance oil production + scalp health
🌸 Lavender – calming + supports hair density
🌱 Peppermint – stimulates follicles + increases blood flow
In my practice, I often combine these with a targeted peptide that has been a major game changer for hair regrowth and thickness.
✨ The magic is in combining root-cause support with targeted therapies.
If you want what I use clinically, comment below and I’ll send you:

I recently read an article from Vibrant Blue Oils that really resonated with what I see in practice 💡
It explored how lymphatic stagnation may actually contribute to anxiety.
When your lymphatic system isn’t flowing well, it can lead to:
💭 Brain fog
😣 Increased anxiety
😴 Fatigue
🧠 Nervous system imbalance
Because the body can’t efficiently clear toxins and inflammation.
This is why I often use essential oils as part of a holistic approach—they can gently support:
🌿 Lymphatic drainage
🌿 Nervous system regulation
🌿 Emotional processing
It’s a powerful reminder that anxiety isn’t always “just in your head”—there can be a physiological component too.
If you’ve been feeling off, this is definitely worth exploring.

About Sarah LoBisco, ND, IFCMP & BreakFree Medicine
As a licensed naturopathic doctor and certified functional medicine practitioner, my passion is to empower individuals to achieve their current health goals. This is to remove the blockages of fear and worry of diseases and symptoms that keep them from living their passions and fullest lives.
My typical client comes in with reports of some or all of the following: mood disturbances, digestive issues, hormonal and menstrual irregularities, and low energy. They may have other diagnoses such as ADHD, anxiety, autoimmunity, bipolar, celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, depression, OCD, thyroid disease, or other complaints of just “feeling not right.”
I help these individuals (and often their family members) get to the root cause of their symptoms. I do my health detective work and utilize my knowledge of biochemical individuality and epigenetics to individualize a wellness plan that aims to bring them back into health harmony. In our consults, we search out any hidden factors or blockages that will inhibit their body and mind from getting what they need to be optimized and revitalized. We then work together to go over their wellness plan and agree on an action plan that fits best for their needs and goals.
I match each person’s unique genetic makeup and environmental influences with the best supplemental nutritional, herbals, essential oils, and lifestyle practices that work for them at the current time. This protocol is updated and tweaked as they regain body harmony. Once their main symptoms are resolved, they typically pop-in for bi-yearly “wellness visits” and “health optimization.”
This approach is all about living healthy, rather than stopping disease.
