Brain fog can make one feel fatigued, both physically and emotionally. 🥱

It can also lead to anxiety, depression, and decreased function due to the brain not optimally functioning.

Certain plant compounds have been shown to decrease inflammation, oxygenate the brain, enhance circulation, move lymph, and calm the nervous system. 👍

Essential oils have an ability to support brain health and function due to their multifaceted actions. 💧

They are natural antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, circulatory and lymph enhancers, and they modulate neurotransmitters. 🧠

These properties can help to lift brain fog and support emotional health and cognition.

I also have a post on how essential oils can help with fatigue and focus.

My favorites that I use with my clients, along with Parasympathetic blend, include peppermint, rosemary, sage, jasmine, and citrus oils. What's yours?

Hello lovely oilers... 💜

I'm contemplating a new project on brain health, of course essential oils are part of it. 🧠

I'm deciding on webinar format or an open group discussion with a short intro to each topic and then Q&As and group sharing.

Which do you prefer in learning from groups or do you have any other format you enjoyed online?

I'd love to hear your preference below. 👇

I want it to be personalized and community-building, but open to ideas....

All living things have a frequency. 😍

Modern medicine measures frequency through various diagnostics (e.g., EEG, EKG, sleep waves) and uses frequencies for treatments (e.g., PEMF, light and sound therapy) 👍

Essential oils are the highest frequency of all living things and can be used to help balance our mind-body and emotions based on this. 💧

Recently, I was elated to see reports on the effects of rose oil inhalation on the size of our brains go viral on social media.😍

This research being celebrated made my heart sing, as I’ve been sharing about the brain health effects of essential oils for a long time now. 🧠

This trial, however, brought it to a whole new level. 🤩

Specifically, the groundbreaking study from Kyoto University found that continuous inhalation of rose essential oil for 30 days resulted in measurable growth of gray matter volume (GMV) across the whole brain. 😀

The posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), a region linked to memory and emotional processing, was the most impacted.

So, in this video blog, I wanted to do a deeper dive into the study and discuss the many ways essential oils aid our brain health.

Topics covered include:
🧠 The effect of essential oils brain function
🧠Neuroplasticity and how essential oils enhance it
🧠The impact of essential oils on brain health
🧠The latest viral study on aromatics: how rose oil acts like “miracle grow” for the brain
🧠Some limitations to consider related to the research on the brain growth resulting from sniffing rose oil

As always, the references, resources, and links to studies can be found in this accompanying article to the video on my website or comment below.

Have you sniffed rose oil or any other ones for brain health?

Sending you many blessings. 🥰

Should you ingest essential oils?🙋

This is a big controversy. 🤕

A lot of it has to do with the French vs. English model.
🥐 The French model uses aromatherapy and essential oils medicinally.
🫖 The English model uses essential oils more for mind-body, wellness applications.

These models have been merging and more trained aromatherapists and physicians are now using essential oils internally, including ingestion.💧

There are some things to consider to do this safely:

💧 Be mindful of diluting and dosing to avoid sensitization
💧Do not take them directly into the mucous membranes
💧There is a potential for medication interactions
💧Take breaks...

If my clients are on essential oils ingestion for a particular purpose, I always have them take breaks in between and use herbals and alternate.

The good news is essential oils won't kill your microbes, as essential oils have been shown in animal studies to actually heal the gut lining and repopulate commensal microbes. 😍

released a blog on the history of ingestion and I wrote a very long 40+ review article on using essential oils medicinally and internally for digestive issues.

My article includes dilution charts and how I use essential oils clinically.

Finally, I discussed ingesting oils with pioneer in aromatherapy and world-renowned aromatherapist from ,

Since it's spooky season, I thought I'd post a solution to something really spooky.... 🫣

Aggressive driving! 😱

And... the solution "smells" great!!

One study found that the aroma of peppermint oil decreased aggressive driving in subjects unaware they were being "scented" upon. 🚦

Peppermint is known for its digestive benefits as well as focus. 🧠

The researchers provide an awesome overview of peppermint's benefits in the introduction in assisting with driving focus and decreasing frustration in one study to benefits on overall focus using brain imaging to verify. 😍

I wasn't aware of the studies on peppermint for driving, but it makes sense.

Here's one: "Peppermint has also been shown to significantly improve reaction times to unexpected events whilst driving under conditions of sleep deprivation, another situation closely linked to road traffic accidents (Kwak et al., 2015)."

Abstract of the study below.
✅ Aggressive driving is of increasing concern in modern society. This study investigated the potential for the presence of an ambient aroma to reduce aggressive responses in a simulated driving situation.
✅Previous literature has demonstrated the beneficial effect of peppermint (Mentha piperita) aroma on driver alertness and we aimed to identify any impact on aggressive driver behaviour.
✅Fifty volunteers were randomly assigned to one of two conditions (peppermint essential oil aroma and no aroma).
✅Aggressive driving behaviours were measured in a virtual reality driving simulator.
✅The analysis indicated that the peppermint aroma significantly reduced aggressive driving behaviours.
✅The presence of the aroma also produced medium sized effects on some aspects of mood from pre-test levels.
✅These results provide support for the use of ambient aromas for the modification of driving behaviours.
✅It is proposed that applying peppermint into daily driving may be a beneficial for reducing driver aggression.

I have used peppermint for alertness while driving due to my understanding of this impact, I didn't know it was actually studied in driving.😎

Awesome find thanks to the Tisserand newsletter!

I'll post the link to the study and more on peppermint below later this afternoon, if you want it delivered direct to your inbox, let me know.

Have you used peppermint oil for calmer driving?

Many blessings. 🥰

About Sarah LoBisco, ND, IFCMP & BreakFree Medicine

As a licensed naturopathic doctor and certified functional medicine practitioner, my passion is to empower individuals to achieve their current health goals. This is to remove the blockages of fear and worry of diseases and symptoms that keep them from living their passions and fullest lives.

My typical client comes in with reports of some or all of the following: mood disturbances, digestive issues, hormonal and menstrual irregularities, and low energy. They may have other diagnoses such as ADHD, anxiety, autoimmunity, bipolar, celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, depression, OCD, thyroid disease, or other complaints of just “feeling not right.”

I help these individuals (and often their family members) get to the root cause of their symptoms. I do my health detective work and utilize my knowledge of biochemical individuality and epigenetics to individualize a wellness plan that aims to bring them back into health harmony. In our consults, we search out any hidden factors or blockages that will inhibit their body and mind from getting what they need to be optimized and revitalized. We then work together to go over their wellness plan and agree on an action plan that fits best for their needs and goals.

I match each person’s unique genetic makeup and environmental influences with the best supplemental nutritional, herbals, essential oils, and lifestyle practices that work for them at the current time. This protocol is updated and tweaked as they regain body harmony. Once their main symptoms are resolved, they typically pop-in for bi-yearly “wellness visits” and “health optimization.”
