Essential oils can be our allies to help us calm our mind-body, recenter, and ground.π§
It's a new year, time to embrace the good... in ourselves. All with the help of plants.π
One of the most amazing things about essential oils is how they impact our emotions and calm our nervous system in one sniff.π₯°
With the right aroma and aromatic compounds we can enter into a state of restoration and calmness.πͺ·

I just read a wonderful blog post in which the essence of self-love with aromatic plants is explored.β€οΈ
Here's some excerpts:
"Aromatic plants have a unique power when it comes to working on the mental and emotional spheres, due to their influence on the olfactory sense. π
βοΈ Our sense of smell is intimately connected to our subconscious mind and emotions. Something unique to olfaction is that impulses from aromatic molecules travel directly to the limbic system, a center responsible for memory and emotion, without being processed elsewhere in the brain first. π§
βοΈ This means that before we are even able to identify what a smell is, we are already having an emotional response to it.
βοΈ This highlights the ability of the medicinal properties of aromatic plants to reach and heal the deep and subtle layers of the subconscious mind β which is the driver behind our conscious experience.
βοΈ All plants will have specific affinities and qualities that will act upon the body, mind, and spirit in different ways.....
π§ Essential oils highlighted for promoting self-love included tulsi, frankincense, and roseπΉ
Self-care rituals, such as diffusing, making aromatic tea, and self-massage are highlighted.
I will post the link below.

As the holidays come to a close and the festive events wind down, many people are reassessing their priorities for the New Year. π
The most recent surveys reveal that only about 30% of Americans plan to set resolutions, yet even without written goals, January 1st still prompts reflections on new beginnings. π€
Recent years have brought about many transformations and transitions worldwide, especially technological. π¨βπ»
We now have instant access to social media posts through the mini-computers at our fingertips, making it easy to be lured to enter into the dangerous world of social comparisons. π±
Although mindless scrolling may prevent boredom, and seems innocent enough, it can also rapidly and unintentionally feed into βFOMOβ (fear of missing out). π¨
This can negatively impact our emotional health and steal our sanity. π
Therefore, this new year, I want to offer you a different mindset in how you can seek to transform yourself to your highest potential. π
It canβt be found in gadgets that track or in diet culture messages.
It can, however, be revealed through ancient technology that is low cost and is available to everyone across the world.π
The modality is simple.
Itβs by calming your mind and body and going inward using essential oils. π§
Through tuning into your inner wisdom, and silencing the distractions and external noise, you can access what you need most, based on your personalized needs. π§ββοΈ

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), also known as the winter blues, is caused by several different factors and there are several theories. π’
A big component is lack of sunlight. The sun not only supports vitamin D, but also regulates our circadian rhythm , neurotransmitters, and results in a better mood. π
Essential oils can provide an upliftment to those struggling with mood. π
Clinical evidence has shown they impact our physiology, psychology, and biochemistry.
They also improve brain health by acting as a neuroprotective, influencing hormones and neurotransmitters, and shifting brain physiology.π§
This post on the winter blues reviews some oils, such as citrus oils, can be particularly helpful in uplifting the mood. π
Furthermore, essential oils for the lungs can also be used.π«
"Your lungs are sponge-like organs located near the backbone on either side of the heart that function as a fundamental source of life energy βtransporting oxygen from the atmosphere into the capillaries so they can oxygenate blood β as well as an important channel of elimination β releasing carbon dioxide from the bloodstream into the atmosphere.
Feelings of sadness, loneliness, or grief can obstruct the ability of the lungs to accept and relinquish, impeding their function of βtaking inβ and βletting goβ.
Similarly, impaired lung function may contribute to shortness of breath, fatigue, and feelings of melancholy, like those experienced with the winter blues.
Lung Supportβ’ blend contains essential oils derived from sunny citrus plants that can help boost mood. " π π

During the holidays π , our bodies may not be at its optimal state due to consuming heavier foods and alcohol.
This can make our body and mind feel stagnant and not optimal.
This season can also bring up more emotions that may get suppressed and can lead to more mental and physical issues. π
We need good circulation of fluids and proper drainage for overall health. π
Our cells need to receive proper nourishment and toxins and wastes must be removed to maintain vitality.π
Alongside physical toxins, unexpressed or restrained emotions can block the tissues within the body's drainage channels, hindering your capacity to eliminate physical, mental, and emotional waste.π±
Essential oils serve as potent aids to ensure that the pathways for emotional detoxification are open and flowing, allowing toxins to be expelled from the body.
They aid emotional and physical drainage through all levels including:
π§ releasing stagnant fascia
π§ assisting lymph flow
π§ improving circulation
π§ liver and bile support
π§ balancing the nervous system by enhancing the PNS to aid "rest and digest"
π§ supporting the kidney, spleen, skin, and lungs
We can use these aromatic allies during the season to keep our minds and bodies in better balance.
Want to learn more about how to assist your circulation of physical and emotional stagnation?
I'll post the link below so you can all benefit. π

Holidays are a beautiful time, but sometimes we may be around people that aren't to our highest good. π±
This is a great podcast on navigating "toxic people" from the amazing Kimberly Quinlan, LMFT.
Key Takeaways
π You canβt control others β only yourself.
π Stay in your lane. Focus on your own car, your own journey, and your own peace.
π Set boundaries with kindness. Boundaries protect your well-being without demanding others change.
π€ Let go of the need for everyone to like or understand you.
π§ββοΈ Practice mindfulness. Itβs your best tool for staying present when anxiety flares.
πΏ Act from values, not emotions.
"You deserve to be treated with respect and kindness β always. π
But when life brings difficult people your way, remember this: you still hold the keys to your car.
You get to decide how you respond, what direction you drive, and what thoughts you bring along for the ride. π¦
Be gentle with yourself. Take small steps. And above all, practice compassion β for yourself first."

About Sarah LoBisco, ND, IFCMP & BreakFree Medicine
As a licensed naturopathic doctor and certified functional medicine practitioner, my passion is to empower individuals to achieve their current health goals. This is to remove the blockages of fear and worry of diseases and symptoms that keep them from living their passions and fullest lives.
My typical client comes in with reports of some or all of the following: mood disturbances, digestive issues, hormonal and menstrual irregularities, and low energy. They may have other diagnoses such as ADHD, anxiety, autoimmunity, bipolar, celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, depression, OCD, thyroid disease, or other complaints of just βfeeling not right.β
I help these individuals (and often their family members) get to the root cause of their symptoms. I do my health detective work and utilize my knowledge of biochemical individuality and epigenetics to individualize a wellness plan that aims to bring them back into health harmony. In our consults, we search out any hidden factors or blockages that will inhibit their body and mind from getting what they need to be optimized and revitalized. We then work together to go over their wellness plan and agree on an action plan that fits best for their needs and goals.
I match each personβs unique genetic makeup and environmental influences with the best supplemental nutritional, herbals, essential oils, and lifestyle practices that work for them at the current time. This protocol is updated and tweaked as they regain body harmony. Once their main symptoms are resolved, they typically pop-in for bi-yearly βwellness visitsβ and βhealth optimization.β
This approach is all about living healthy, rather than stopping disease.
