Want to get a little bit nerdy with me?
Botanical oils are truly so cool to me and I love that I get to share them with you every session.

Every botanical oil is made up of a chain of fatty acids and unsaponifiables.

🌿Fatty acids are kind of like the molecular building blocks of an oil
🌿Unsaponifiables are the components within an oil that remain intact even if you were to make a soap with them. They make up a small % but include things like vitamins or sterols..

While many oils are made of similar fatty acids it the combination and amount paired with the unsaponifiables that make them each unique.
It tells the story of where they grow and how they might benefit us.

Yes, even seed oils.

In this photo we can look at the fatty acid make up of one of our favorite oils Argan. What's really cool is that it is made up of almost 50% oleic acid with linoleic acid not far behind. This tells us so much about argan.

We also know from this page(created by my favorite oil mentor ) that argan is high in vitamins E and has squalene, antioxidants, carotenes, and polyphenols.

In contrast cucumber seed oil has 60 to 68% linoleic fatty acid and only 14% oleic fatty acid.

And pomegranate seed oil has 70-76% punicic acid ,which is a fatty acid named for and found almost only found within pomegranates.

Each is a puzzle piece of an oil that can tell us what it is and how we might want to use it on our skin or in our diets.

Would you like to hear more about each oil and why we should love them?

April 1st was Sanctuary Massage's 14th Birthday! 14 years! So often people ask me how long, I've been doing this and time flies by so quickly I often forget just how long it's been.

14 years since first opening up inside a tiny metaphysical shop with no idea what I was doing, but with a passion to help.

I've since specialized in fibromyalgia massage for 10 years now and have found my little niche truly focused on helping to soothe the nervous system.

My dream all that time ago was to run a practice where we did things a little differently and I could build trust from clients due to the level of care they receive during thier visits.

So far, I think we've nailed that and I couldn't be more thankful and honored for each and every one of you who've trusted me with your care all this time.

I am so deeply gratful to Alli, who is the backbone and anchor of the studio, the staff we've had in years past and all the people behind the scenes who've helped to keep Sanctuary the safe and calming place it is today.

Happy Belated Birthday to us!

Yes, there are lots of things we can do to help manage and ease our symptoms. I will advocate for that all day long. Knowing what works for our nervous system can go a long way. But I also know just how frustrating it can be when we do absolutely everything right and the flare still shows up fiercely.

It can feel like we failed, like we did something wrong, like we weren't good enough.

That simply isn't true. Because:

Flares can happen even when you are doing everything right!

It is not your fault. Give yourself grace and nurturing.

SHADES OF GREEN
In the wellness and beauty industry, "shades of green" is one way to describe how natural-based a business truly is. The spectrum from light to dark green is often used, noting just how natural a business and it's practices can be.
Sanctuary Massage is medium to Dark Green

☘️Our services are dark green. We only use pure lipid oils like Tamnu (green gold) or Argan oil expertly blended with all natural essential oils just for you. For your face, we've chosen a deep green small business who specializes in herbal and natural skin care.( )

☘️Beyond the table, we are medium green. We use digital receipts and gift certificates, avoid any excess of disposable products when we can and chose cleaning products as natural as possible. At the same time we have a high standard of sanitation for your saftey, which can mean slightly harsher chemicals when cleaning.

For us, it is important to find the balance between all natural and environmentally conscious practices with evidence-based safety and care. What do you think of the shades of green spectrum? Is it an important part of chosing what businesses you like to work with?

So grateful for our amazing clients. I'm not much of a dancer but I always do a little happy dance whenever I get to see our reviews. This is the whole reason I do what I do.

I'll probably not go down as a woman who kept her mouth shut. My grandma Betty would be really proud of that. I inherited a bit of her spirit. Not all women have the privilege to be loud.

One of the things client's ask me a lot is

"Is this normal?" And it can be about a myriad of things that come up in the massage room. Almost every single time, it is a totally normal and a very common thing.

We as women are often left in the dark about what other women experience. We often feel alone and it can be really scary.

I personally believe the more we talk about our experiences, especially when it comes to our health we can begin a new legacy. One that uplifts, empowers, and connects us.

Your voice matters!

Did you know that I was still in massage school when I decided to name my practice Sanctuary Massage? This feeling and everything it invokes was super important to me.

I often begin my session with a few promps to help you breathe and settle in. Asking you you be present in the moment and remembering that no matter what is happening outside of the massage room just doesnt matter for the 75 or 90 .minutes you are on the table is part of that.

A reminder that we can't control or handle everything every minute of the day. We were not meant to. Our nervous systems are not meant to handle the massive amounts of information imput we are suddenly so deep in.

You are always welcome to book an appointment and this spring I'm working on something super relaxing, cozy, and accessible to help you find a little bit of peace and Sanctuary.

If comming in is not right for your schedule or budget right now, be sure to find little momemts of Sanctuary in your week. And if you are struggling with everything going on in our news cycles and life in general know that you are not alone and are absolutely deserving of giving yourself a bit of grace.

I'm always surpised when new clients mention they have never had thier face or scalp massaged before. Stress and tension can live here just like any other part of our bodies. Through massage we can find great relief for headaches, jaw pain. TMJ, assisting in easing neck pain, lymph support and it just feels incredibly relaxing.

While I am not an esthetician and do not treat your skin, I do believe in using the best ingredients when working on your face.
So what do we use? We have some amazing options:

🌿Nothing: sometimes our clients don't want anything on their skin. We absolutely respect that. So unless we are using the gua sha stones, it's perfectly fine to let me know you'd like to keep oil off of your face.

🌿Simple Lipids: chosing a single botanical oil known to be non greasy and gentle on the skin is a great option. In the winter, I love a drop or two of hazelnut, argan or rosehip seed oil. In the summer cucumber seed or guava seed oils is amazing.

🌿When we really want to nurture our skin there are a variety of options from that we keep on hand for just that. The Astera sensative skin balm, Perennia Radiance balm, the Peony Serum and the Wild Biome facial clensing oil. They each feel a bit like magic on the skin and our clients love them.

What service include facial and scalp massage?

🌸Any of our massages typically include a bit of facial and scalp massage as it's one of my favorite way to start a session. We can always focus on this area and make it extra indulgent.

🌸Peony Facial Glow- named "the most relaxing service" we offer is completely focused on your face, neck, and scalp.

🌸 Wild Biome Clensing Face Massage- this add on is the perfect option to get some face care while still get the full body massage you love. Just $15.00

🌸our spring special- Breathe & Bloom Scalp Ritual- this 60 minute special available this spring only is dedicated to deep nervous system care through face and scalp massage.

Ive opened up appointments this March and April if you are looking to love your face a little more or book any of our services it's a great time to get on the books before they are taken.
