It has been a while since I’ve written a bio, so I thought I’d introduce myself to my new followers and friends. Hi! I’m Lauren, a New York State Licensed Massage Therapist of 7 years. Throughout my time as an LMT I have worked on hundreds of clients. I have been able to help bring a comfortable, pain free quality of life back to many people. I mostly specialize in treatment of the neck and upper body, but offer many other modalities such as, full body stretching, pregnancy massage, and even pediatric massage! Yes, little ones benefit from massage too! I currently offer my services all over the Capital Region. You can find where to book with me at my linktree in my bio. Happy Healing Friends! šŸ–¤lcthelmt

Tuesdays are for the Traps!

• The trapezius muscle is a large, superficial muscle that extends longitudinally from the occipital bone to the lower thoracic vertebrae and laterally to the spine of the scapula (shoulder blade). It is a trapezoid-shaped muscle that is divided into three parts: the upper fibers, middle fibers, and lower fibers. These three parts of the trapezius muscle work together to perform various functions related to the movement of the scapula and support of the shoulder girdle.

• What causes trap pain and tension? Repeated stress, injury, whiplash, and poor posture.

• Some things you can do to help relieve tension is to be more mindful of your posture throughout the day, practice breath work and relaxing your shoulders, stretching, and of course massage to loosen and get rid of those trigger points!

✨Did you know?✨

Stress and emotional trauma often times manifests as physical pain in the body.

• This is called The Mind-Body Connection🧠

Science suggests that our nervous systems have evolved so that we can feel things like intimacy and safety around others. But if we detect danger, the other, primitive parts of our nervous system kick in -- like the sympathetic nervous system, which controls our ā€œfight or flightā€ response, and the parasympathetic nervous system, which causes us to shut down and conserve energy.

These systems also control things like digestion and heart rate. So once they spring into action, your body works differently. This could explain why trauma is linked to everything from constipation to fainting.

Many things happen in your life that can disrupt your emotional health. These can lead to strong feelings of sadness, stress, or anxiety.

Your body responds to the way you think, feel, and act. When you are stressed, anxious, or upset, your body reacts in a way that might tell you that something isn’t right. Physical symptoms can be your body’s way of letting you know you aren’t coping with stress well.

People who have good emotional health are aware of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They have learned healthy ways to cope with the stress and problems that are a normal part of life. They feel good about themselves and have healthy relationships.

Easy stress management may help you feel better. Meditation combined with frequent Massages, a good diet and exercise, journaling are all things that help you manage and balance that mind-body connection. I call it a Mindfulness Cocktail šŸ¹

That’s why I, have named my practice Lighten Up. I tailor my practice around providing a service specifically designed to meet each individuals’ needs in achieving an overall healthy mind-body connection. Teaching you the tools you need to practice mindfulness on your own and how to simultaneously take care of your mind and body. Lighten Up your mind, Lighten Up your body.

That is why (after many people have pushed me) I have decided to also become a Certified Health and Life Coach! Combining my massage practice and coaching, I can help you clarify your goals, identify the obstacles holding you back, and then come up with strategies for overcoming each obstacle. All while providing you with the tools you need to maintain good physical health as well. As a Licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Health and Life Coach, I will provide the support you need to achieve long-lasting physical and mental change.
