I usually plan only what is necessary and then follow the “seat of my
pants” rule.
In Feb while in Ireland, I bought tix to see Amble and Hozier in Fenway Park.
Eventually i bought a prearranged parking spot for the night of the concert. Then I reserved a hotel. Schroon to Boston is a lot :4 hour drive each way.
Stopped for gas just outside of Boston . Car flap for gas would not open. 4 of us tried. Had to rip outside part off and then pry inside part off gas thingy. Filled up and off we went.
Circled 5 times trying to locate parking spot which was totally inaccessible due to construction. Finally located a back entrance on
totally diff roads
Now to hoof it to Fenway.
I will withold how we lost $57.
In through the first security stop.
Next for ticket scan.
Scan Man told me I had not downloaded an app that made accessing actual
tickets possible. I only had my receipt which i thought had all the necessary info!
Got the app- while dripping with sweat- 98 degrees
Went back to the scan man. Bingo! lol lol tickets scanned HOWEVER they were for tonight June 24. We were there last night June 23. 🫣
I was CERTAIN I bought June 23 and I was certainly WRONG!
Scan Man pointed to ticket window and said “see if they can help”
Well , the most helpful fellow refunded my wrong tix and got us new seats for last night. This all took no more than 10 min!!! And he did it all with a smile!!
Back to also super helpful Scan Man who seemed delighted that the “ pathetic woman” was actually going to see the concert!
We immediately stopped
to buy 2 Sam Summers before locating our seats. Well no ID no beer. I had
my phone w all pertinent info including a pic of my
license but that drove the beer lady over the edge !!! “i dont understand why people think they can go
places without an ID…”🤨
We quickly opted for Tom to purchase two beers and briefly carry them both! Can you imagine if she knew
i had tix for wrong night??????😂😂
ROW AAA to the side of the stage. In the shade Thank God!
What an amazing g night!
AMBLE was fantastic and we need to see them as the headliners on their own tour!
Gigi Perez from Boston Conservatory graduated 6 years ago , she is incredible! Even came out during the encore to sing with Hozier!
Hozier was all we hoped for. What an incredible night. Two very funny things to me : 1. his comments about the heat- it couldn’t have been much worse for anyone not used to extreme heat and disgusting humidity! 2. he began a song and instantly stopped. Said “ i’m going to start this over - i began singing into the wrong mic! that’s how you know it’s live!!!!!”
I love real
people who just roll with things!!
FENWAY PARK was packed- their
largest show thus far. Quite a
night! Also Hozier
told us they are the first Irish band to ever play FENWAY!!
Being there on the FIRST night was so wonderful- thank goodness i didn’t pay attention to my tickets!!!

Well we’ll well. Now it’s March 13 and I’m in the home stretch!! Per usual I’m at Ashe’s for Sunday morning chunes!
Already a typical Irish morning! Woke to clouds then blue sky then a hint of a rainbow, a beautiful few beach moments and then a torrential downpour followed by brilliant sunshine and flowers!
I LOVE IT!!
So what am I going to do with my final days you ask?
None of your damn business I answer!!! lol Nah, truth is I rarely have a plan that goes beyond 24 hours!!
If I find music tonight I’ll go to it. Tomorrow is supposed to be a gorgeous sunny day so I’ve booked a two hour horse ride on the beach and In the dunes ( i think) I’ve wanted to do this forever so check that off the old bucket list!!
Checked out of the AIRBNB this am
that i’ve been in for so long I can’t recall when I arrived there! I will miss it and miss Tom who owns the home! But Kelsey moves back in there in May so hopefully I can say hello again!
Funny story. Was having tea w Breda and Sean and Kelsey yeaterday. Greg popped in and then quickly left as he had to go help his uncle and shear a sheep. Now most of the time I understand what is said to me even if it requires a bit of mind processing! Yesterday wasn’t a stellar day for my accent listening skills. One sentence from Greg clearly showed on my face that I was in the dark. Kels
burst out laughing. What happened to respect your elders and their foible’s? Before he left he invited me to
come along and watch him shoot a sheep. It seemed a rather odd invite but I have been very interested in all things daily
life so I was happy to be included. I was sort of dragging my feet time wise ( didn’t want to be too eager to
a shooting) I can’t recall who set me straight but when I realized he was in fact shearing using the hand shears I was out the door and in the drivers seat before Kels had the chance to start her car!
Most amazing to see how first he has to grab the ram 🐏 by the wool and the horns and wrestle it to the ground! Positioning is key and I can’t really do
justice to explaining all about what I witnessed! But Greg gave me a full
tutorial while he worked and tried not to be abused by the not so happy ram!
Music time so that’s it for now!

I just took a gander at my last installation and I see many things have changed since then.
I am
no longer high on a hill top but I have been on a few more since then. Which ones you ask? Sigh I’ll look at a map and check the info link of my pictures and get back to you with that info.
The past few days have been glorious. NO wind, nary a
cloud and an abundance
of sunshine.
Today the “fresh breezes” are back - matter of fact there were just sheep out the window which I am certain were blown here from another field!
I have much to share but first I must go in search of sustenance. Will be detailed with info when I return. Should I not return look for me in the sky- floating on a fresh breeze (gale
force)
I will say that today is March 7 and I again availed of the no change policy and now my
flight is March 19!! I will be on that one because I will NOT miss the wedding of Deirdre Ryan!! Dancing cousin and harpist extraordinaire!!!
Later gator!

Now don’t shoot the messenger. I keep seeing that the temps in and around the Schroon Lake area are low enough to potty train dogs. Heavens to Betsy I hate that kind of cold. I’ve decided that in my advanced age I prefer
cold weather that doesn’t go much below 50 - ok maybe 45.
In that regard I am penning this masterpiece from high on a hill top yet below the Grotto in the small
village of Cloghane in County Kerry on the west side of the Di**le Penninsula! Is that specific enough?
We first touched down on Dec 19 in time for a Covid Christmas with our daughter. The weather stayed between 50-60 degrees out on the Maharees - again west side of Di**le. Those that say you can’t trust irish weather- well that’s true HOWEVER other than ONE very crisp and frosty morning it has been delightful. Now some may say that I just got lucky. I’ve been visiting Ireland for a solid 30 years and I almost always “get lucky” and I’m not talking leprechauns and sh*te! I can live in this climate where you can pretty much be outdoors always! Take yesterday for example. A sort of bright morning so I decided to walk/hike/slop/slide to Lough Doon near by. I hear tell this small lake is stunning with a waterfall falling into it that you can also walk behind. Right? awesomeness!! Off I went only to quickly be surrounded in fog and a thick mist followed by sideways rain, disgruntled sheep and soaking boggy feet. Regardless I always finish what I start and really once you are drenched who cares??? The spot is beautiful and would be more
glorious in sunshine and warmth but i Wasn’t cold!! My hands were a bit chilled but the rest of
my soggy being was not! Perhaps it was
my efforts to NOT fall into the boggy rocky spots that kept me from really being aware of temps but I swear to you it was 49/50 degrees!!! I can deal with that!!!
OK back to the story.
HMMM what was the story?
Regardless I am up on a hill but below the grotto and the fog is lifting and the sun is peeking and I have no doubt I will soon be treated to a spectacular view of Brandon Bay! I am fairly sure that is originally what I wanted to tell you. If not - so what!!!!
Originally this was a Christmas visit beginning Dec 19 and concluding Dec 28. Then I took advantage of the no change fee policy and changed my return to Feb 2. The forecast in Schroon continues to be awful so I changed again to Feb 28.
I promise I’ll be
home by March. Probably, I think, I should be.
DidnI mention I love Ireland and it’s weather???

Well shiver me timber’s and blow the man down! We’re you home when the micro burst hit? I was watering the flowers out front when the hose water went sideways!!! That was the craziest weather I’ve ever experienced!!! There is plenty of damage scattered around but from what I hear tell no one got hurt ! Can you give me a HALLELUJAH
So today kicks off the official Memorial Day Weekend and the unofficial
beginning of summer. Too bad last week felt like August and today feels like early October!
There are
lots of exciting things happening in and around Schroon. First of all some property was finally sold
across from Sticks and Stones and the sign says COMING SOON Schroon Lake Motel
and Cabins!!! New life is always good. usually 🤨
Further down there is a gorgeous new sign at Kish Duna and it appears that the leaves have been hard at work sprucing up the place to prepare for post Covid opening.
Pitkins redid their patio- Inhave no idea why but then I have no expertise in the area of patterned cement etc. All I can tell you is that it looks spiffy and there are
more tables out there including a couple of high tops!! Of course the
stuff almost took flight during the burst!!
The new old church looks smashing and probably will be
open for business soon.
Speaking of opening - well- What’s the story, morning glory? What’s the tale, nightingale? WOLLodge is
up for sale!!! The trucks, vans, cars, suvs, have been hauling things off the hill for weeks
now. Heaven only knows what will become
of that prime property! And speaking of Prime Property the lovely home that I’ve oft admired in town on Dock St is for sale!!! What a place; what a view!
Back to Pitkins gossip - the restaurant will
be closed up
tight for a day while the owner and his fiancé and all the “PitkinsFamily” attend the wedding of the year!! We could not be happier for them!! Sláinte Adam and Bridget!
The candy store is open the candy store is open the candy store is open and they have soft ice cream did you hear me i said soft 🍦!!!
Barkeaters appears to be loading in their merch and prepping for their summer reveal!
The town is hopping right now. Everyone is out and about at garage sales and general merriment! It may be 49 degrees but damn it HAPPY SUMMER!!!

Don’t for a moment think we are just an old retired couple living in quiet Schroon Lake spending the days petting our dogs. Oh no. We live for adventure. We do our best to keep it edgy and we revel in meeting First Responders!
Let us begin with the morning I was headed to Plattsburgh for my second vaccine shot. Having proven in years past that I sometimes display evidence of having a degree in Advanced Stupidity, I prepared my Barry’s Irish tea to make my drive sweeter. Having poured the boiling water from the kettle into my yeti I then skillfully , showing great dexterity, used my right hand to pour said boiling water all over my left hand. This is not new territory for me sad to say. Years back I picked up the grate from our gas stove. I like things tidy. Somehow I had forgotten in the ensuing 3 minutes that I had just finished using the stove so the grate imbedded itself into my hand. A quick scream, some cold sink water and my children fetched the bottle of aloe vera for me. I poured the aloe into a large bowl and submerged my hand. I was certain a trip to the ER was in my future but in the meantime we went to a friends house to visit! Keep calm and carry on!
I digress.
The important take away here is the amazing power of aloe vera.

With my left hand covered in scalding water and traces of tea, I ran the cold water while my husband fetched a blue surgical glove from the bowels of our basement. I grabbed my “summer bucket” filled with sunscreen and- you guessed it - aloe vera! I put the glove on, held it “open” as Tom filled the glove with aloe. I smushed it around to be sure it got all the way down to my fingers. Mission accomplished; I made a new cuppa, popped on the cover and off I went to Plattsburgh! Returning home, I removed the glove and wha la my hand was not bad at all but had taken on an eerie bluish tint from the aloe vera coloring!!
I know what you all are thinking; how did she know about the aloe? Well, don’t we all see the commercials? Plus as a youngster I spent many a vaca in Florida with my best buddy, my grandmother. That’s when we began our night time adventures sneaking out with a large kitchen knife to cut large swaths of aloe plants to tend to my young burned skin!
Again, I digress.
Where was I.
Ah yes. Vaccinations, tea and aloe. All’s well that ends well!
Keep calm and carry on!

Some days passed without incident.
My husband must have been getting bored because now it was his turn to up the anti.
He is a skier. He skis every Monday thru Friday and often puts a few hours in first thing Sunday mornings. He loves being outdoors and growing up in the Berkshires he skied at Jimmy Peak throughout his life. So he doesn’t “just ski.” There needs to be a goal. 40 runs a day is the goal.
Mostly Tom skis at Gore; first on the lift, last to leave. Sometimes he heads to Whiteface in spring when it isn’t as icy. This day he was at Whiteface.
To spice things up he crashed into the race fencing/netting and that was how he got to meet the head of NYSEF New York Ski Education Federation, multiple Ski Patrol personnel and a helicopter pilot! Does it get any more exciting? He doesn’t recall meeting all of them ( or really any of them) but wow! What a day! Having graduated from UVM Tom was at home being flown to UVM Med Center. My mission was to head to WHITEFACE to retrieve Tom’s skis and boot bag. I was fortunate to meet many amazing Ski Patrol men and women, the lady at lost and found, the Head of Grounds and a woman working the front desk. I also got to meet the Judge in Wilmington because I was issued a parking ticket while there! Keep calm and carry on!! I didn’t get to meet the judge until the following Thursday am as that was when Court was in session!!
Once again, All’s well that ends well. Tom is home; his season was cut short but that’s ok. It’s BIKING SEASON!
But in the meantime….

Every year we kayak when the ice starts to go out. It has always been a peaceful and entertaining adventure. This year, 3 days ago, the ice was wide open from where we live out to the WOL Island. Around the shore was also pretty much open. We got the kayaks down to the lake and off we went. It was a beautiful sunny day. We paddled as close to the island as we could get and were mesmerized watching two sheets (hockey lingo) move towards each other, one slipping underneath the other. Mother nature is incredible. We started paddling back from whence we came and quickly realized that while we were watching the ice close in front of us it had also been closing behind us.
Keep calm and carry on!
We did our best to move forward. Tom grabbed a manageable piece of wood and was bashing the ice allowing himself to inch forward. I was trying just as hard but with much less luck! The ice, having joined forces with other ice was too thick for me to make any progress with my paddle. I began using the “scootch” method and bit by bit scootched my kayak forward on the ice. It was still a beautiful day and I had no doubt that we would get out of this predicament but it would take time. I suddenly head a man’s voice booming from the shore, “HELP IS ON THE WAY!” Now that was sooo nice but it had not yet dawned on me that we needed help! I was scootching! Tom was bashing! Anyone could see we had it under control!! (eye roll)
Now a voice came from a megaphone - did I not mention the sirens and arrival of an ambulance, a firetruck and miscellaneous first responders? “If you can hear me wave your paddles” I waved my paddle! I yelled to my husband “wave you paddle” The voice said “An airboat is on the way. We need you to stay very still. We don’t want the kayaks to capsize” I waved my paddle to acknowledge we had heard . It’s difficult to find yourself in an incredibly stupid position, through your own negligence, and then sit quietly and do nothing to try to help yourself. For about 5 minutes I obeyed. During that time Tom continued to bash the ice. Carl had arrived in his skiff and was trying to help break up the ice where Tom was. (a good distance away from me; no guilt by association for him) He chatted amiably with Tom and worked the ice as best he could. Wha la !!!Tom was free !!!!
Meanwhile more official vehicles had arrived as well as the local troopers and the Horicon airboat. Anyone with nothing better to do that afternoon had also gathered along the shore to witness the first 2 loons of the season. They were also watching the amazing response of all those who had come to our rescue. Sorry, my rescue. It must be said TOM WAS NOT RESCUED. HE GOT OUT ON HIS OWN. (I guess he felt he’d had enough attention at Whiteface!)
The airboat was started, hummed quietly ( you’ve heard airboats right???) and headed for me. Twice the airboat circled me breaking up the ice into manageable chunks so that I could paddle my way out to the shore. Now I must admit I would have liked to paddle home - or to someone else's home, so that no one would know it was me!!! However, there were a lot of people who had gone to a lot of trouble to help us and they deserved a huge THANK YOU. (I did not have a mask with me kayaking. I’m sorry) As we approached the old beach and exited our kayaks (thank goodness my knees held up and I was able to stand and not fall over into the water) the folks on shore began to applaud! We thanked the First Responders, gave the State Trooper our “information” and got back in our kayaks and paddled home.
All’s well that ends well.
Keep calm and paddle on.
Yesterday we went out for a paddle and came back sunburned! Mother nature is indeed awe inspiring!

Now this doesn’t take in all the news here in Schroon Lake. The Daily Bugle likes to keep track of what’s happening!! Pitkin’s opened the upstairs for Easter!! Yesterday they opened the patio!!!! The new church looks spectacular. Pine Cone Mercantile is doing block buster business! Every day I check the sign at Flanagan’s so that I will know when they reopen! There is a constant flow in and out of Nine Mile Coffee and 518 Nutrition. To my knowledge no one has purchased The Severance Store. Trail Break has put out their patio tables.
Two ferries have been running to The Island for the past two days.
Foot traffic has picked up in front of our house and into the village. (maybe they know we are famous?)
In a few days we will head to Colorado to see our grandson for his 2nd birthday! If we end up flying the plane or some such nonsense I will be sure to report.
For now though, that is the latest report from
