SCITUATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY
High Wind Watch in effect for November 5-6, 2025
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for most of Massachusetts, including Scituate, for a period beginning at 11pm Wednesday, November 5, through Thursday November 6 at 6am.
The Weather Service is warning of westerly wind gusts of between 55-65mph overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Damaging winds could blow down trees, limbs and power lines, resulting in widespread power outages. Travel could be hazardous during the overnight hours.
• PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
Be Prepared: A High Wind Watch means there is a potential for a hazardous high wind event. Monitor the latest forecasts and be ready to take action if a High Wind Warning is issued.
Secure Objects: Tie down or move any loose outdoor items, such as patio furniture, trampolines, and trash cans, as they could become projectiles.
Charge Devices: Ensure all cell phones and other electronic devices are fully charged in case of prolonged power outages.
Downed wires: Do not attempt to move or touch downed wires. Always assume that they are live. Contact National Grid/Eversource and Scituate Emergency Communications in any cases of wires down.
Fortunately, the winds are projected to be from the west and northwest and they do not coincide with the Thursday high tide at 11:08am. Therefore, the wind should not contribute to any minor coastal flooding caused by the king tides at the end of the week.
High Astronomical Tides are expected Wednesday through Friday of this week. The current forecast is for offshore winds, making this primarily a tidal event. The highest tides will be Wednesday at 10:20 a.m., Thursday at 11:08 a.m., Friday at 11:57 a.m. and Saturday at 12:49 pm. All four of these tides will be in excess of 11’, with a high of 11’5” on Friday.
Areas prone to flooding, including Cole Parkway, Front Street, Edward Foster Road, Cedar Point, and Central Ave in Humarock, may be particularly vulnerable on either side of the projected high tides.
Residents and businesses should take precautions and prepare for the impending tides.
• Avoid driving through flooded areas to prevent vehicle damage and risks to neighboring properties.
• Refrain from parking on Cole Parkway and the Town Pier.
• Respect the sawhorses placed for safety purposes and avoid driving around them.
In case of emergencies, dial 911. Dial 781-545-1212 for non-emergency situations.
