Joyce Neville Cuthrell, a cherished member of the Enfield community, passed away peacefully at her home on December 27, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 18, 1941, to Otto and Mary Elizabeth Neville in Enfield, North Carolina, Joyce spent her entire life in the town she loved dearly.
Joyce was the beloved wife of the late JC Cuthrell, Jr., with whom she shared 42 wonderful years until his death in 2003. Together, they worked diligently at their family business, Enfield Cleaners. Joyce was the cornerstone of the business, providing unwavering support and dedication that kept it thriving.
She was a lifelong member of Enfield United Methodist Church. Joyce was recently honored as the "longest member" of the congregation. She served her church faithfully in many capacities; she sang in the choir for nearly 40 years, managed the church's finances as treasurer for two decades, and served as a Sunday School teacher.
Joyce's greatest joy in life was her family. She had an unwavering love and devotion to them all and they will greatly miss her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Joyce is survived by her three sons: John Collins "Jay" Cuthrell, III and his wife, Dawn, of Rocky Mount; Jeffrey Neville Cuthrell of Enfield; and James Mayo "Jim" Cuthrell and his wife, Heather, of Rocky Mount. Her legacy continues through her five grandchildren: Collins Cuthrell and his wife Andrea, Hunter Cuthrell Mitchell and her husband Mac, Mackenzie Godwin and her husband Chris, Chloe Hedgepeth, and Andrew Hedgepeth; and one great-granddaughter, Clark Cuthrell. Joyce is also survived by her sister, Barbara Taylor and her husband, Sammy; her brother, Thomas Neville and his wife, Tanya; and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the Enfield United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall from 10:00 to 10:45AM. A funeral service to celebrate Joyce's life will follow at 11:00AM. The burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield.
