Thank you, Alabama. 💙🏥

Because of the incredible response from individuals and businesses across the state, the $20 million Alabama Rural Hospital Investment Program tax credit cap was fully reached in just one month.

That kind of momentum sends a clear message: Alabamians understand the vital role rural hospitals play in caring for families, supporting local jobs, and sustaining community economies. Your investment is helping ensure these hospitals can continue providing around-the-clock care where it’s needed most.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who stepped up so quickly and so generously. Together, you’ve made a lasting investment in the health and strength of Alabama’s rural communities—now and for the future. ⚠️ Winter Weather Update ⚠️

Due to inclement weather in our area, Highlands Medical Center outpatient clinics will be closed on Monday, January 26. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to help ensure the safety of our patients, visitors, and employees.

We encourage you to follow our page and official communication channels for the latest updates. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prioritize everyone’s safety.

Did you know?

Approximately 37% of people in the U.S. are eligible to donate blood, yet only about 5% do. January is National Blood Donor Month—an ideal time to help close that gap. LifeSouth welcomes both first-time and returning donors at donor centers and mobile blood drives.

Our Volunteers dedicate countless hours to fundraising efforts within our hospital that benefit both employees and patients. The funds they work so hard to raise are generously reinvested into meaningful gifts for Highlands Medical Center. Their most recent gift was a state-of-the-art $26,000 Algo Pro Newborn Hearing Screener for our Maternity Center

In 2008, Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) became a mandated part of the Alabama Newborn Screening panel of disorders. The goal of this program is to ensure early identification, treatment, and intervention for infants with hearing loss. Hearing screenings are performed at 24–48 hours of age, or before a baby leaves the hospital. The Algo Pro will make this process much easier, as it is a compact device that can be easily transported from room to room, allowing mothers and babies to remain together throughout the screening.

We want to say a sincere THANK YOU to our volunteers whose dedication makes a real difference for our patients and our community.

Behind every number is a moment when someone in our community needed help, and our EMS team answered the call.

In 2025, Jackson County EMS responded to more than 10,000 calls, drove over 535,000 miles, and spent more than 12,000 hours on the road, all while maintaining an outstanding 94 percent safety score. These numbers reflect long shifts, missed holidays, and a deep commitment to serving the residents of Jackson County.

We are incredibly grateful for the men and women of EMS who show up day and night for our community. In a large, spread-out county where access to services can be limited, their dedication ensures help reaches every corner of Jackson County when it is needed most.
