After 40 years of service, we recognize Wanda Smith as she retires from full-time work in CT. Throughout her career, Wanda has helped care for patients in our community through CT services and supported those she works alongside.

While retiring from full-time work, Wanda has chosen to continue working PRN in CT to help meet the needs of our department. Her decision reflects a continued commitment to serving our local community hospital.

Thank you, Wanda, for 40 years of service.

We are grateful for strong leadership and advocacy for healthcare in our community.

Ashley Pool, President of Highlands Medical Center, recently presented HOSPAC checks on behalf of the Alabama Hospital Association to Senator Steve Livingston and State Representative Mike Kirkland, recognizing their unwavering support of Alabama healthcare. Stephen McCormick, with the Alabama Hospital Association, also joined in presenting the checks.

Support like this helps ensure hospitals like Highlands Medical Center can continue providing high-quality care, investing in our teams, and meeting the needs of the families who depend on us every day. We appreciate our state leaders for standing with healthcare and with our community.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Business, Admissions, and Health Information Offices for generously purchasing Christmas gifts for our Care Center residents who do not have local family to celebrate this joyful season with them.

Each year, these departments come together to ensure our residents feel remembered, valued, and surrounded by the spirit of community. Their kindness is just one of the many ways we live out our mission of providing exceptional healthcare and compassionate service to everyone we serve.

Thank you for making a meaningful difference this holiday season.

We were honored to celebrate our dedicated Volunteers at their annual luncheon. This event provides a special opportunity to recognize their hard work and express our sincere appreciation for everything they do for Highlands Medical Center. We are especially grateful for the leadership of Betty Gallagher, whose guidance ensures this group continues to thrive and make a lasting impact.

This year, our Volunteers raised an impressive $61,877.47 to support the purchase of essential equipment for our hospital. Their contributions made it possible to provide important items such as clinic equipment, blanket warmers for the 5th floor, and a blood warmer for EMS—items we would not have without their generosity.

Many in our community recognize our Volunteers by their pink coats and warm smiles as they greet patients and help them find their way. But their impact extends far beyond what is seen. They offer comfort, guidance, and support throughout the hospital, making a meaningful difference in the experience of every patient and visitor.

These women are a true source of light within our organization. Their dedication strengthens every department and enhances the care we provide. We are deeply grateful for the time and energy they give to our hospital.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Volunteer, we would be glad to welcome you. Please fill out an application online, and our team will be happy to assist you in getting started. Volunteers are an essential part of our hospital family, and we look forward to growing this remarkable group as we continue serving the people of our community.
