Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect
Parents and Caregivers:
Our young children experience their world through a different lens. Children often look at the world through their relationships with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other adult figures. The quality of these relationships and the environment set the child up for adulthood. When children develop good skills, they will develop and play a key role and impact them as adults.
Here are some tips to help;
1. Set aside time each day to talk and play with your child.
2. Establish structure and routines.
3. Children feel safe and secure when their environment is structured.
4. Please, validate your child's feelings, even if you think they are being "silly" or anxious.
5. Offer physical and emotional support.
6. Know who is supervising your child when they are outside of your home.
7. Monitor who your child talks to online. Teach them about safety on digital devices.
8. Seek parenting skill training programs to help build stronger bonds.
9. Talk to your children about how you feel. It is okay to show feelings to children; this is how they regulate and learn to express themselves as adults.
10. Reach out for help if you get overwhelmed. Children get overwhelmed as well, and teaching them to ask for help keeps them safe.
