“What even is lymphatic drainage—and do I need it?”
If you’ve ever asked that (especially after a tough workout, surgery, or just feeling puffy and off), you’re not alone.
⚡MLD is a gentle yet effective way to support recovery—whether you’re healing from an injury or just trying to feel better in your body.⚡
I've been certified in the Vodder method since 2020. Since then, I've taken additional post-op and oncology training, as well as becoming an instructor with the Academy of Lymphatic Studies.
I’ve worked with athletes, post-op clients, and folks dealing with chronic inflammation. And the truth is: when your lymph system flows, everything else works better.
This helps breaks down the basics—how MLD works, when it helps, and why it’s worth knowing about.
Swipe through, save it, share it. Recovery isn’t just about pushing harder—it’s about supporting smarter. Let me know how I can help! ⚡

Ah the mighty hip flexors! They often become tight from prolonged sitting, lack of movement, or intense workouts. Strengthening and stretching these muscles is key to improving mobility and preventing discomfort.

Keep moving to stay flexible!
⬇️⬇️⬇️

Kneeling Hip Flexor Stretch

🔹Kneel Down: Start in a kneeling position on a soft surface.
🔹Step Forward: Step your right foot forward, creating an approximate 90 to120-degree angle with your knee.
🔹Align Your Hips: Keep your hips square and tuck your tail to eliminate an excessive arch in your low back, ensuring your left knee is directly behind your left hip.
🔹Shift Forward: Gently push your hips forward while keeping your back straight.
🔹Use Props! Depending on mobility and comfort, use props that you have at your disposal! A small cushion or towel under the back knee. A small stool, weight bench, the wall, or your couch for balance or support.
🔹Feel the Stretch: You should feel a stretch sensation in the front of your left hip. Find a stretch sensation of a 7/10 as you will be maintaining this position for 2 minutes. Fascia takes time to adapt!
🔹Switch Sides: Slowly come out of the stretch, lie flat on your back for 1 minute to reset and repeat the stretch on the opposite side!

Try for 2 rounds on each side!

Before you jump into this hamstring stretch, give the hip flexors a stretch first!
It is generally important to focus on opening up the hip flexors prior to the hamstrings, as the hamstrings become taught as an adaptation to extended periods of time sitting. When the front side of the body is tight (hip flexors), it makes the back side of the body taut (hamstrings).

🔷bring your foot up onto a chair
🔷bend the knee of the foot on the chair
🔷bring the chest to the thigh
🔷gently allow the hips to sink back, without straightening the leg completely - keeping a bend in it
🔷activate by pressing the heel towards the floor
🔷pull the heel back towards the butt and hold for a 5 count
🔷stop pulling, take a deep breath and slowly let the hips sink further back
🔷repeat the activation/rest process for 2 minutes to create both neuromuscular and connective tissue change

Hamstring mobility can enhance performance in activities like running, jumping, and bending. Having adequate range of motion in your hamstrings promotes overall muscle balance, enhances performance, and reduces the risk of injury and discomfort.

Interested in hearing what the hype about cupping is? Commonly referred to as myofascial decompression, this technique enhances motion efficiency using negative pressure tools (cups) and unlocks the potential of fascial mobility and neuromuscular re-education. With skilled application, it can be a great tool to increase blood flow, help with recovery, and provide the stimulus to create change.

Claire had been using cups since 2015 and is happy to introduce you to the technique at no additional charge during your session. She believes less is more with this type of work, and often will only use 1 or 2 cups at a time, incorporating gliding techniques and range of motion in the affected area. While discoloration in the tissue can occur, it is not the goal, nor is it indicative of toxins or the effectiveness of treatment.

This simple stretch can be a great option to get into the quadratus lumborum (AKA QL) in the low back. It may help open the hips, low back, lateral neck and any other areas that could be feeling restricted. ⁣
🔹Sit with your legs crossed and lean to the side.
🔹Try to get your forearm to the floor, while holding your opposite knee down with the same-side hand.
🔹Let the neck hang and be heavy.
🔹Hold the stretch for 2 minutes, being mindful of your breath, and gently roll forward to come out of the stretch.
🔹Rest for one minute.
🔹Do the same thing on the other side, repeating each side 2-3x.

Enjoy the new space you've created in your body!

📌If you're unable to stay balanced, it is no problem to lean up against a wall or other surface. You can also sit on a bolster or uncross your legs to find a comfortable and sustainable position. If you cannot reach the floor with your arm, blocks, rolled towels and other props are your friend!

Hi!
Claire here 👋🏼

We are already wrapping up week 3 of the new year, but I wanted to share some highlights of 2023 and things I am grateful for!
Apex moved into a new location.
We welcomed Emily to the team!
We said farewell to Judy as she began a new chapter of her life and passed the reigns of Apex down to me.
I had the opportunity to speak at last year's American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) National Convention, I became a preferred practitioner for oncology massage, and I taught many manual lymph drainage courses!
I also had the privilege to continue to do what I love and help many of you along the way!

Apex is here for you, offering massage, stretch, lymphatic drainage, cupping, and combinations of all of the above.

I'm looking forward to the year, continuing to help all of you, continuing to keep learning and bringing evidence-based and effective tools to the treatment room, and continuing to be a safe haven where you can just lay down unbothered for an hour.

Cheers to wellness, health, recovery, gratitude and finding joy through the rest of the year!

Let's give those legs a little attention!
Using a lacrosse ball is a great way to improve blood flow, help relieve tension, and create change in the tissue. By delivering direct pressure and then releasing, muscles and tissues have the opportunity to fill with fresh blood, nutrition, and oxygen enhancing their pliability.
Don't have a lacrosse ball? Try it with any kind of ball or even a tightly rolled towel!
🔹Lean forward and place the ball as far back behind the knee as possible
🔹Sit back towards your heels, with as much weight on the ball as possible, finding areas of tension
🔹After 20-30 seconds, lean forward, move the ball down towards the feet and repeat
🔹Work your way all the way down to the Achilles tendon
🔹Repeat on the other side
🔻Adjust the amount of pressure that feels comfortable and sustainable, if ankle mobility is a challenge, a rolled towel under the ankles or hanging the feet of the edge of something can help.
