March is National Colorectal Cancer Month
Due to the sharp rise in colorectal cancer incidence and deaths among people under 50, the guidelines for screening to begin has been lowered to age 45. Such screening can help detect and treat these types of cancers from progressing.

On a personal note, my therapy dog Lexi has been providing her services exclusively to me the past several weeks as I face the challenges of immunotherapy adverse effects. This panacea in treatment can run an unexpected course but I remain hopeful to get through this with the proper interventions.

When stepping into death care or grief support on any level, it is essential to honor the spiritual practices of the individual(s) involved. As endorsed by Rogers Behavioral Health, this includes empowering individuals to identify where their religion or spirituality has helped and/or hindered their healing process, exploring what comes to mind when one thinks of the divine or sacred, guarding sacred space to honor one’s experience of the divine, exploring religious and spiritual language used in meaning making, or how we interpret events in our lives and incorporating
sacred texts, poems, or music lyrics that align with an individual's spiritual practice.

Not only do I have a therapy dog to bring on visits, I enjoy therapy dog visits! Meet Ember from Mayo Clinic spreading her sunshine to patients.
Therapy animals help reduce stress and anxiety while improving mood. They also have a calming effect on the body by lowering blood pressure and increasing “feel-good hormones” like endorphins.
