While you're busy shopping, wrapping, and making time for holiday celebrations... make sure to take care of your mental and physical health, too.
Over 60% of Americans report feeling various levels of elevated stress during the holidays. This stress can lead to unhealthy eating, lack of sleep, elevated heart rates, and feelings of depression.
Here are five tips to help minimize moments of of feeling overwhelmed, and celebrate a stress-free holiday season:
1. Plan Ahead
Over-commitment to parties and get-togethers is one of the leading contributors to unwanted stress during the holidays.
2. Budgeting
Shopping is the other leading contributor to holiday stress. Do you best to stick to your budget, and don't overspend.
3. Maintain Healthy Habits
The holidays are notorious for ruining healthy habits. Do you best to get in your daily exercise and avoid overeating.
4. Be Realistic
You are only one person, and there is only so much you can do by yourself. Do the best you can, and ask for help.
5. Take a Break
Put on some holiday music, light a candle, and kick your feet up every once and a while. Your happiness is part of the magic!
