This Year's National Physical Therapy Month Theme is: KEEP MOVING!

Mobility is the key ingredient to aging successfully and remaining active and independent throughout our lives. We think most will agree that is a universal goal as we grow older.

October is an exciting time for Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants. This is our unique opportunity to highlight the fact that we are your trusted experts in restoring and improving motion, and we can improve your quality of life, helping you to keep healthy, fit, and active and avoid surgery and long-term use of prescription medications, in many cases.

Our focus for National Physical Therapy Month this year is sports injury prevention Across the Lifespan. Whether it's Little League or the Masters, participating in sports helps promote physically active lifestyles.

For women post-breast cancer treatment, some need help restoring mobility, some need help getting strength back, while others just need education on their options for preventing or living with lymphedema. Physical Therapy can help through massage/manual techniques for lymphadema treatment, stretching, and muscle release in addition to instruction in home exercises for range of motion and strengthening.

Physical Therapy Post-Breast Cancer Treatment: Many women get treatment for Breast Cancer and they get surgery, and they have radiation, and they have chemo therapy, and then it's like, "O.K., the cancer is gone, see ya," but then the women cannot raise their arms. Many women also become susceptible to lymphedema, which can cause swelling in the chest and arms if it's not treated right away. Lymphedema can happen even years after surgery and there is no cure, but it is completely preventable. How can Physical Therapy help? Keep reading this week for more information . . .

More "Realistic" Student Stress Tips:
3. When frustrated or you feel your brain shutting down (where you can’t jam any more information into it), take a walk or do something physical – this should “recharge” your system & make it easier to refocus
4. Allow yourself to do something you actually enjoy on a daily basis – this will keep you motivated and your focus more intact (make it worth studying)

“Realistic” Student Stress Tips:
1. Try to take a break every 2 hours while studying to at least stretch or move around (avoid prolonged positions)
2. Snack on something other than beef jerky and 5 hour Energy Drinks (easy things such as Vitamin Water, Gatorade/Power-Aid are better than sodas, etc.)
