A gestalt is a multi-word language "chunk" that is learned from a child's environment, that is repeated in it's entirety to convey meaning.
Some kids learn with a gestalt language-processing style. This means children first assign a single unit of meaning to longer segments of spoken language. For example, a child might say, "on his farm, he had a cow" when referring to a cow. Gradually, the child can learn to isolate smaller parts from the original phrase and use individual words and grammatical structures to produce unique sentences.
There is so much recent research into gestalt use and gestalt language-processing. We love using the most recent evidence-based practices when supporting our clients who use gestalts. Reach out to us for more information!
