Yes we have all been there. The meltdowns in grocery store and immediate panic mode sets in to avoid complete public humiliation.

Breathe. Your nervous system needs to be checked on FIRST.

Children can’t self-regulate without first experiencing co-regulation.

Their nervous system looks to yours for cues of safety.
When calm is modeled, their brain can dial back out of stress mode. So parents park the lectures momentarily please!

Instead, practice modeling some more subtle skills, and one day your child may adopt them in their own difficult moments when you are not present.

After hearing all the mixed messages, I FINALLY decided it was time to explore this modality for myself. With training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Attachment Focused Play Therapy, Child Centered Play Therapy, and Adlerian Play Therapy, I’m excited to see if it truly lives up to the hype.
