Off-ice sprint speed strongly correlates with on-ice skating performance; but what actually separates fast from faster?

A 2025 study on collegiate hockey athletes found that faster sprinters demonstrated less co-contraction between the re**us femoris and biceps femoris during late swing phase.

This month we’re featuring Dr. Kollock and his students at the University of Tulsa, where Noraxon systems are built directly into biomechanics labs and undergraduate research projects.

Within the Kinesiology & Rehabilitative Sciences program, students get hands-on experience using EMG, IMUs, force plates, and high-speed video through guided lab activities and faculty-led studies. They learn how to set up measurements, capture movement data, and interpret results across biomechanics applications, including projects completed through the Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge.
