Some simple non-medical things can sometimes stop migraines before they start. Hot or cold compresses can be a helpful migraine pain reliever. Ice packs have a numbing effect, dulling the pain, while heating pads can relax tense muscles.⁣

If this self-therapy is still not helping, call us at 480-378-0067 or visit our website to schedule your appointment with Dr. Shayya.

When you’re healthy, your blood carries nutrients and oxygen to your brain freely, without any disruption. If the flow of your blood vessels gets blocked by a clot or if the vessel ruptures, your brain can’t get the blood it needs, which causes your brain cells to die. The outcome of a stroke depends on the region of your brain that is affected.

Dehydration causes your blood to thicken, making the flow to the brain difficult. When your blood tries to get through blocked blood vessels, a stroke can occur.
Studies show that those who are well hydrated when they suffer a stroke have a greater chance of a better outcome.

Daily recommendations for staying hydrated include drinking a minimum of one cup of water for every 20 pounds of your body weight. It’s important to start your morning with water and to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Symptoms vary depending on which nerves are attacked, but they often include partial or complete loss of vision, pain when you move your eyes, numbness and tingling in your arms and legs, difficulty keeping your balance, etc.⁣

Most people are diagnosed with relapsing, remitting MS, which means they will experience periods of symptoms, followed by periods of remission where symptoms are not present.

Our team evaluates you thoroughly to give you an accurate diagnosis. If you have a more severe injury, we may perform diagnostic tests, such as an MRI or CT scan, to ensure you don’t have any bleeding or bruising in your brain. We may also request an electroencephalogram (EEG) to look at your brainwaves, a videonystagmography (VNG) to look at inner ear/balance function, and a transcranial doppler (TCD) ultrasound to evaluate blood flow in the brain.
Once we determine your diagnosis, we establish a treatment plan to help you recover and get well.

Lifestyle choices, like alcohol consumption, can impact the development of dementia. A recent study found that patients who have a higher genetic risk for dementia can lower their risk if they:⁣

* Keep alcohol consumption in moderation (less than two drinks per day)
⁣* Avoid smoking⁣
* Eat a healthy diet⁣
* Exercise often (150 minutes of moderate activity per week)⁣

A healthy lifestyle may also prevent dementia for patients who aren’t predisposed.
