❤️ Big thanks to YOU. I know you are busy yet you take the time to tune in. I'm convinced that we have the most dedicated parents and professionals supporting The Autism ADHD Podcast.

Today, Dr. Lori Long and I are diving into a really tough topic- school avoidance. We both agree that it's one of the most difficult challenges.

➡️ It's hard for parents

➡️ It's hard for the school

➡️ It's MOST importantly hard for the child or teen.

We are covering reasons behind school avoidance and strategies to help!

Again, thank you for tuning in, supporting and sharing the podcast ❤️

Love this post❤️❤️❤️

This week, I am talking Autism in girls, AFAB, and non-stereotypical presentations- and a key theme is that we are missing or misdiagnosing this population… but WHY is this happening? Here are some common reasons (and obviously not all will be true for every person!)

Sharon and I had a wonderful evening at the picnic! We have loved providing autism evaluations for these amazingly grateful families over these past several years. The foundation has provided so many families in need FREE scholarships! They have given families the ability to have answers quickly and be on a path to understanding their child and giving them the supports they need to thrive!🌈💕

This is a great reminder!❤️

This is a great reminder!❤️

YOU are the expert on your child✨

We say this often (but not enough) here. We say this to our families in therapy all the time.

YOU know your child best✨

These days, the challenge of having so much parenting information at your fingertips is… well… it can feel like you’re doing it completely wrong 😓

Please, allow us to free you of that misconception. You are not doing it wrong. As parents, we are all doing the best we can with the information we have at the time.

👉🏻Take what serves your family, take what aligns with your values, take what works for your family… and leave the rest👋🏻

🌈Please accept our invitation to release yourself of the notion that you aren’t doing it “right”… because if you are learning, growing, changing, TRYING, and making some mistakes along the way… you ARE doing it right✨

Do you want to know what treatments your child with ADHD needs. This guide will help parents determine the science behind various ADHD treatment and strategies.

😡“They just need more discipline!”
🤯”You’re too easy on them! You’re spoiling your child.”
🙄”If that was my child, I’d…”

As a parent to a child with ADHD, we know you’re getting lots of feedback, and sometimes criticism, on your parenting. Please hear us 🙏🏻 you aren’t doing anything wrong.

✨Your child is not “naughty”.
✨They don’t just need “more punishment”.
✨You’re not “too easy” on them.

🗣Children with ADHD want to do well. Due to the ACTUAL structure and function of their brains 🧠 they require different supports, extra teaching, and a little (or a lot) more patience to meet “typical” expectations (that’s a conversation for another day 🤪).

👉🏻This is to no fault of yours or theirs. Understanding that your child isn’t bad and that ADHD is not the result of poor parenting is an absolutely essential step in helping your child grow and thrive 🌱

🌈So, the next time someone is frustrated by the lack of listening, the big emotions, the loss of important things, or the relentless distractibility… remind yourself that what your child needs most is understanding, love, connection, and a super strong advocate… YOU💪🏻❤️
