Why 21 March is Our Day
Have you ever wondered why we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March? It is a bit of a science lesson! Most people have 2 pairs of chromosomes, but people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. So, the 21st day of the 3rd month is the perfect day to celebrate what makes us unique! This year, stand with us as we work

Inclusion isn’t just about being in the room.

It’s about participation, relationships, and belonging, and sometimes those things look like they’re happening on paper, but aren’t showing up in real classrooms.

This infographic highlights a few common red flags I see as an advocate when inclusion is more about physical presence vs. meaningful connection.

If you’re reviewing your child’s IEP or thinking about what to ask next, this can help you see things more clearly.

As you look at your child’s IEP, what stands out to you about inclusion?

The Arc of Pennsylvania will be holding an Advocacy Day on May 5, 2026 at the State Capitol to advocate for state legislative and budget priorities. The day will begin with a press conference with speakers from the House and Senate, parents, and self-advocates. Following the press conference, participants will visit House and Senate members to advocate for issues impacting the IDD community. In preparation, helpful virtual informational sessions will be held on April 29th at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

We hope you will be able to attend this event. It is very important for members of the General Assembly to see we are a unified and powerful voice!
