Our deepest sympathies are with the Flowers’ family as it was our privilege to have been able to provide comfort care for this proud Veteran in his time of need.

🙏🏻🇺🇸Edward (Ed) Flowers, a longtime Ransom Twp. resident and Old Forge native, passed away on Sunday at Allied Hospice in Scranton following an illness. He was 84 years old.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 61 years, Janet (Miller) Flowers. The couple were married on September 26, 1964.

Born on July 17, 1941, Ed was the son of the late Edward and Anna (Mihok) Flowers. A basketball standout for his alma mater, Old Forge High School, he was a graduate in the class of 1959. He continued his basketball career on the collegiate level at the University of Scranton. He then proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War prior his honorable discharge.

He worked for the Texaco Corp. for most of his career, retiring as a terminal manager in Roanoke, Va., where he had last worked before returning home to Ransom Twp. Never truly retiring, his favorite “jobs” may have come afterward while both driving bus for the Abington Heights School District and working for his son, David, at Jed Pool Tools in Old Forge.

To be remembered in countless ways, Ed was an impactful man whose true purpose was spreading the Word of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Faith, Lord and ministry was central to Ed’s being, serving as a deacon at the Open Door Church of Scranton, a chairman of the Missionary Retreat Fellowship in Jefferson Twp., a chaplain of the Chapel Transport for Christ in Bartonsville, among countless other acts of selfless volunteerism to spread his faith.

A lifelong sports fan, he loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Yankees, and he was an avid outdoorsman who never passed up an opportunity to hunt and fish with his family. Also alongside his family of helpers, he was a longtime veggie vendor at the Scranton Co-Op Farmers Market.

A life well-lived, Ed will be dearly missed.

Along with Janet, he is survived by his loving family including his four children, David Flowers and wife Terri of Old Forge, James Flowers and wife Kelly of Clarks Summit, Jeff Flowers and wife Melissa of Ransom Twp. and the “apple of his eye”, Tammy Sweeny and husband William of Eynon; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren with a great-grandson on his way; siblings, Paul Flowers and wife Nancy of Old Forge, Ann LaBelle of Taylor and Sandra Cwalina and husband John of Old Forge; and many nieces and nephews. A sister, Mildred “Millie” Voytko, also preceded him in death.

Edward’s family would like to acknowledge and thank both Allied Hospice and also Dr. Singh for the care and compassion given to both Ed and his family.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 AM in the Open Door Church, 826 S. Keyser Avenue, Scranton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Milwaukee Cemetery.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until services.
