Alumni Spotlight: Chrissy S.

“I was sober from m**h for almost 10 years before I relapsed. And when I say this second time means everything to me, I mean it in a way that’s hard to put into words — because I truly did not think I would make it out again.”

For Chrissy, recovery the second time around has been about far more than abstinence.

“This recovery hasn’t just been about not using. It’s been about facing myself. Sitting with discomfort instead of running from it. Learning how to regulate my nervous system. Rebuilding trust — especially with myself.”

Over the last 18 months, she has committed to deep internal work, unlearning survival patterns, challenging old beliefs, grieving past versions of herself, and accepting that healing is not linear.

“Some days are strong and grounded. Some days are tender and exhausting. All of them are real.”

Chrissy speaks openly about the version of herself she once was, lost, and disconnected, not to stay there, but to honor how far she’s come.

“This milestone isn’t about perfection. It’s about resilience. It’s about choosing growth over numbing, accountability over avoidance, and hope even when fear is loud.”

She credits Texas Recovery Center and her support system, including sober living, her program, her therapist, friends, and family, for walking beside her when she couldn’t walk alone.

“If you’re struggling, relapsed, or convinced you’ve gone too far to come back — please hear this: you haven’t. I didn’t think I’d survive a second time, and yet… here I am. Still healing. Still learning. Still showing up. And most of all, deeply grateful to be alive.”

Shame keeps people sick. Community helps people heal.
Getting treatment isn’t som**hing to hide. It’s som**hing to be proud of.

If you’re in recovery, what’s som**hing you wish you knew before you got help? Your words could give someone the courage they need.

Healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) helps reshape thought patterns. DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) teaches skills to ride out big emotions. Different tools. Same goal: building a healthier, more stable life.

At Texas Recovery Centers, care, kindness, and responsibility are part of who we are, for our clients, our community, and every life we’re able to help.

While our campus was covered in snow, our team stepped in to help unexpected visitors who needed warmth, safety, and care. These cats were rescued by our staff and given a safe place during the storm; reminding us that community is built on showing up for one another, no matter the weather 🐾🌨

So excited to introduce the newest (and cutest) employee at TRC 🫏
Meet Pablo! Pablo is 12 years old and originally from Canton, Texas. He was brought into equine therapy at just six months old, and has been helping people heal ever since. His name is short for Poblano, which feels pretty fitting for a little guy with a big heart. We are so happy to have Pablo as part of our therapeutic community and can’t wait for you to get to know him.

At Texas Recovery Center, we love celebrating the people who make our community so special. Pictured, from left, Josh Aleman and Brother Danny lead our Sunday church services every week from 9:30 to 10:30am, and Josh also teaches spirituality classes twice a week.

We proudly welcome all religions and believe in the freedom to explore recovery in a way that feels meaningful to you. Brother Danny and Josh have been sharing their hearts and guidance with us for four years, and Brother Danny also wears many hats as a trusted employee, driver, and gate attendee. We are so grateful for both of them and the positivity they bring to TRC every day 🤎
